Running Mojave on 2 iMacs, 1 MacBook Pro and iOS V 12 on iPhone. Syncing iMessages on iCloud with all 4 devices. I find it laborious when deleting a conversation / Message that in addition to clicking the little "x" I also have to answer the question "Would you like to delete this conversation". That's a two-step process. I know that Apple wants you to be sure before deleting but I would like to see the iMessage app have a Trash folder, just like Mail, so if I accidentally delete a Message I can retrieve it from the Trash. Also, it' a nuisance to have to delete the Message 4 times = once on each of my 4 devices. I think Apple released and then quickly withdrew syncing iMessage with iCloud so you would only have to delete the message on one device. ??

Check your settings on each device. I think syncing iMessage via iCloud is back in current versions of IOS 12 and Mojave.

Patrick:

His instructions re: Problem 4, are not correct for Mojave. The preferences for iMessage are different from what he shows. Also, his instructions for iOS are likewise incorrect. You can not turn on iCloud syncing of Messages until you turn on 2FA.

I suspect that until you turn on 2FA the option to do iCloud syncing is not available in Mojave which is why his instructions do not match. He should have added that little tidbit before posting the instructions.

It depends on your definition of "syncing". I have 4 devices. If I create a new Message on one of the devices it does appear on the other 3. And when I get a Reply that also appears on all 4 devices. All good. My gripe is that I would like the ability to delete a msg on one device and have it deleted from the other 3.

Maybe "syncing" across iCloud requires 2FA to be turned on??

chscag - ops. I just read your statement "you cannot turn on iCloud syncing of Messages until you turn on 2FA". I have 2FA turned OFF. I thought 2FA was a nuisance to have to keep entering passcodes.

Thanks for the info and correction Charlie, and I guess I won't bother posting anything about Mojave in the future as I don't even use it, but it's pretty bad for those that do that they can't even rely on some supposedly Mac Mojave "Help" sites. Gheese!!! :p

Personally, I'd say you thought correctly about 2FA, yet some users think it's great. But if the mothership says Thy shall use it, then I guess, Thy WILL use it!!!

BTW: did enabling 2FA solve your problem of deleting Messages from all other devices automatically when deleted from one device???

You only need to use the 2FA passcodes, when you are accessing Apple devices and their secure websites. Or maybe when you upgrade an OS.

The problem that Barry is having and also for me is that iMessages on multiple devices are separate from one another. In other words, when I receive an iMessage on my Mac it also shows up on my iPad Pro, and two iPhones. I then have to delete them separately instead of being able to do it from one device. That's why iCloud syncing is important.

I can understand the extra security when using 2FA, but Apple sometimes can be a real PITA when dictating what I need to do or not do regarding security. And... I am not going to risk having my access turned off for 2 weeks while Apple sorts out the 2FA that I or my wife may have screwed up.

I assume that Apple is not exactly providing all the finite details as to how things work either when they say how well and easy it all works:
When you delete a message, photo, or conversation on one device, it’s removed from all of your devices.

And I gather that one can no longer use or login to iCloud without 2FA being enabled with the latest OS versions.

Sure seems like a big PITA to me and a lot of extra unneeded hassles especially for non-critical user's stuff. At least there should be some other options available, but I guess Tim Cooke is going to keep shoving his personal security stuff down every user's throat or somewhere, like it or not.

I guess I'll just stick mainly with my old iMac Mavericks and my old iPad 2 and avoid some of the newer hassles.

You can log in to anything without the 2FA code, as long as it is on a trusted device/browser, after 2FA has been used. I have noticed, that after one clears their browsers history/cookies etc, 2FA needs to be authorized again.
