I am now running the public release of macOS 10.14 Mojave on my 2015 MBP with no issues at all except this. I have to say it's not a major inconvenience and I'm only posting it out of curiosity and in support of anyone else who has this issue so they will not it's not just them.
Anyway, for some years now I have been using Airmail as my default email client, now up to Airmail 3.6.50. but suddenly since installing the public release of Mojave, Mail opens every time I open Airmail. I launch Airmail then if I check the open windows with Mission Control I will find that Mail has opened as well. This did not happen with the beta releases of Mojave. If I then quit it it will stay quit but i have no explanation as to why it opens in the first place. Does anyone have any idea on this, has it happened with any other native apps when launching a 3rd party app?

Odd, it's one thing for two apps that can handle a type of file/function to launch at the same time, but Mail launching because you launched Airmail is just silly. I don't think I've ever seen that. I used to use Spark for a while and Mail never launched then. Now I use Outlook for my work email and just the browser for Gmail and no issues with random launches either.

Yes it's totally weird. I'll see if I can catch it on film.

You are just clicking on the Airmail icon in your Dock or launching it from Spotlight?

Did you look in Mail Preferences and confirmed Airmail is set as the default email reader?

I'm launching Airmail from the dock, Ill try from Spotlight, see if the same behaviour occurs and yes Airmail is definitely set as the default email client in Mail prefs.
