I was finding that Safari I think 11.3.5, the latest version arriving with High Sierra update, was frequently dropping out and returning with single midget window. I didn’t like the complexity of re-install suggested on Apple discussions. I found AppDelete does work on Safari as normal apps, not refusing on grounds of it being part of the system. I have downloaded 11.1.2 from the MacWorld website and it installs normally. I use StartPage for search and anti-track, which also installs as an extension along Adblock. Of course, when doing this, you do need a side file with passwords and a few bookmarks and know not to quit AppDelete until you are sure.

This has not altogether solved the problem, but increased the interval between drop-outs. I suspect the cause is the battle going on in the background between those who passionately dislike being advertised at and the media that are financed by advertising, possibly aggravated by the recent deluge of Cookies. It seems that Safari 12 is drifting towards the advertising camp?

Going back to the origins of the web, my understanding is that Tim Berners Lee thought that, as we make our own information digital, it would be nice to freely share it. My own contribution is to put a lot of high quality photos up without trying to stop copying. However the web has been hi-jacked by first the advertising industry, exacerbated by the G word monopoly and then governments trying to fan sultry economies into life and more recently sabotaging each other.

The cookie brigade say they want to enhance our experience - the only way for me is to never see another unsolicited advertisement on it again. I think I have achieved that but at the cost of slight but recently introduced inconvenience. Has anyone cracked this altogether?

Do you use it with extensions including Adblock and StartPage, and if so without it dropping out? (ie losing all near full screen windows and returning with one new small one?). Other people report having trouble with extensions in Safari 12.

The only Extension I am using is Ka-Block! I also take advantage of the settings for Content Blockers and Pop-up Windows in Safari > Preferences > Websites. I also use Safari in it's own Space (Green button). Swipe left or right as needed.
