I have imported a PDF picture into Photos and I am trying to convert it to JPEG. I have tried exporting as JPEG to my desktop, but then the coloured wheel carries on spinning and the only way I can stop it is to quit Preview.

Strangely I can edit it in Photos, which is why I put it there!

You tried this within Preview?

P.S. I think I figured out what that foreign word is there. ;)

I was exporting from Photos/ Now I've just tried opening Photos to try again, but a window comes up saying "Closing the library ...", and nothing happens.

Help!

Why didn't I think of that?! However, since restart wouldn't work because of Photos I force quit Photos, and now of course it opens!

So now I'm back to the original problem of exporting from there as JPEG.

David

I just tested this on my Mac.

Imported a Test Photo as a PDF into the Photos app.

From within Photos, I clicked on the pdf to highlight it

Then File - Export. Brought up a window. Top choice “Photo Kind”. Clicking on the arrowheads offers the choices -

JPEG, TIFF, PNG. I chose JPEG and it exported the previous pdf as a JPEG.

As simple as that.

Not an answer sorry, but I'm just wondering why???

Considering that a .pdf is a type of image in the first place.

Then give it time to complete the export. How long did you leave it the first time? Did you restart your Mac and try again?

It seemed like a very long time. How long should I give it?

That’s a subjective question with a lot of information missing? Is a long time an hour or five minutes?

I don’t know what Mac or model year you have?
I don’t know what processor is in it?
I don’t know what drive type is in it?
I don’t know how full the drive is?
Did you restart and try again?
Do you use OnyX, https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html, just get the version for your Mac OS X/OS X/macOS version. It says Mac OS X Lion under your avatar?

All I can say is that my pdf exported as a JPEG in seconds; as fast an ordinary photo.

My specs are shown on the left.

Not sure how long; certainly at least half an hour, but later when I tried to restart and had to force quit Photos it was still exporting.

I have High Sierra on a 21.5 inch iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8GB memory. HD has over 800 GB available out of 999.35 GB.

Must alter my details on this forum - thanks.

Just tried again and it exported immediately!!!

Can't understand it, but as I always say, computers have ends of their own and they are spiteful with it!

Thanks to you all for help and patience.

Update those specs and maybe things will then speed up drastically. :Smirk:

Along the top of the page, click on Settings, then click on Profile in the sidebar. Edit anything you want changed.
