Wife upgrade from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 8. A quantam leap.

My iTunes is apparently 12.6 and it won't let me restore her backup until I have 12.7.

No problem I thought, the App Store has got my back. But there is no update in there that shows me I need to update.

Last OS update was OS 10.13.5.

So, I'm stuck with an older version of iTunes and a pissed-off wife.

Any help?

I'd say that something's drastically wrong on almost all fronts here, and I'd be p'd off as well.
Odd about App Store updates as iTunes 12.7.5 (May 29, 2018) was released for macOS 10.13 "High Sierra".

I have iTunes 12.6.2 (Mavericks 10.9.5) and was able to use it with my wife's iPhone 4, iPhone 6s and both our iPads 2 and 3 to do a backup and restore.

I also have iMazing.app that's even better so I'd take a serious look at using it, but check it's system requirements:

Good Evening Trolle.

I'm puzzled because my OS is 10.12.6 (one OS behind you) and my iTunes version is 12.7.5

My research shows that iTunes 12.7 was launched on 12 September 2017 with updates thereafter.

According to these links an iPhone 8, or ay other running iOS 11.x is compatible with iTunes 12.x:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8064822
http://www.iphonehacks.com/2017/10/...-app-store-iphone-8-x-and-ios-11-support.html

So there seems to be two problems:

Why are you stuck on iTunes 12.6 when 12.7.5 is readily available on Sierra never mind High Sierra and why does the iPhone not sync with 12.6 as there are claims it should?

How about trying to download iTunes 12.7.5 directly from here: https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes

If that fails, and I hope it doesn't, another option is to download the Combo version of High Sierra from here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1965?locale=en_GB

Please post back.

Something definitely wrong. If you're running High Sierra 10.13.5, you should also be running iTunes 12.7.5 as it was updated before then. As iTunes will not be listed in your purchased items, the only way to get it updated is if it is offered by itself or along with a macOS update.

Try going to the iTunes download link and see if you can download the latest version of iTunes from there. If you are already up to date, it won't download. Try this LINK.

OK, looks like Ian is faster than I am. Just can't get ahead of those young fellows. :)

I went to the iTunes page on Apple and finally got the latest iTunes version to download. I had to click on Download 3-4 times which appeared to direct to a different page and then back again - a loop of pages that finally led to a download.

Installed the latest iTunes version and now that works.

Got the back-up installed on the new phone, so hopefully a happy wife when she wakes up.

Now my only concern is what other updates did not install properly with the last OS update.

Thanks for the help with my problem.

And if you do really feel at any time that updating to 10.13.5 lacks something etc, there is, as in my Post#3, always the option of downloading the Combo version of same. I gave the link in that post.

For the moment, great news about iTunes and Bob's suggestion of running OnyX is well worth a try. A lot of our members here use this app.
