I keep getting this error: "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal.dotm. Do you want to save those changes."
I have opted for "save" as well as "no" to no avail. I have Word 2016. I also have to tell it "no" several times before it will let me quit word. Even if I click on "quit word." It's mainly just annoying, but would like to solve the problem if I can.

Thanks

Make sure you have the latest updates to Office 2016 installed. MS just issued another large update which affects all 2016 Office apps. If you're having problems with Word you may have corruption which is causing the errors. Usually the only way to cure that is remove and reinstall Office. Also check your hardware to make sure that the errors are not being caused by a hard drive that may be acting up.

Thanks, I used an external hard drive which I had my old PC files and info store on. I'm wondering if when I tried to load the files that could have caused a problem. I just bought this Mac from a reputable seller on eBay, and I still have time to return it but it did not have these problems originally. I have my computer set to download updates but I will check to make sure it is updated. Thanks. There are other ways to get around this problem that I have seen on the net, but some of those, I don't believe, get tot the root of the problem.

Yeah, once the Office Global Template is messed up that means that every document you open in Word will show the errors. You can try deleting the Global Template if you can find it. It's more difficult to find in Office 2016 than previous versions of Office. Word will create a new Global Template after deleting the old one. However, any changes made to the menus and Ribbon will go back to the default and you'll need to start over.

This one frustrated the heck out of me because of the location of the normal.dot file changes from release to release. If you are running the latest version of Word 2016, the location of the normal.dot file is below. Simply use "go to folder" featiure of Mac to go to that folder and move any of the files in that folder into a new folder (or delete them) and then shut down and start Word. Word will create a new Normal.dot file and you are good to go!
