Hello,
I recently purchased a TON of new fonts for my computer (I'm a teacher - so new fonts are the best thing ever). I have installed fonts before with no problem whatsoever. I'm encountering an issue this time around that I'm unsure how to solve.

There are 5 different folders containing fonts - each one has a theme such as types of coffee or types of flowers etc.

So, I've gone through and manually added each font to Font Book - it was giving me an ! error saying that there might be something wrong with the file, but if I checked the box, it would add the font anyway. All of the fonts show up on FontBook under "users" and "all fonts". All fonts are activated and none have the ! next to them any more.

With that being said, only one font, PB Mocha Cappuccino, will show up in any program. No other font that has been added will show up. I have restarted the computer, added all fonts again, etc. I even copied and pasted the fonts from "users" to a collection to see if I could find them that way. When I go to my collections via PowerPoint etc. I click on "Fun" and the normal ones show up, but none of the added ones except for PB Mocha Cappuccino.

Additionally, if I click on the original file(s) and attempt to install them, they all say that they are not installed on my computer (except that they show up in FontBook).

Any ideas as to what I am doing incorrectly?

Probably nothing. I suspect that the Fonts are not compatible with Microsoft Office (which is very fussy about fonts). You didn't mention which version of Microsoft Office you have, but you can try this. (This is for Microsoft Office 2011 and will not work for Office 2016)

Go to Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts/Microsoft/

And place your fonts in that folder. If the fonts are compatible, they will show up, if not, they won't.

If all the fonts are the same file type, why would "PB Mocha Cappuccino" work, but none of the others? They are all the same .ttf file. Is there something I can do to the files to make them compatible?

It is Word 2011. I did as suggested, and it does not seem to have worked. I placed everything into the Microsoft folder and then restarted powerpoint.

Any other advice?

If you're using Microsoft Office 2011, then you have to have the folder that I listed above or none of your fonts would show up in Word or Powerpoint. Make sure you're in the correct library when looking for that folder.

I hit command+shift+g and then looked for "library/fonts/microsoft" - wouldn't that be the correct file? If it is, and the above method did not work, then what are my other options?

It'd be one thing if none of the fonts worked, but because one does and the others do not, I am very confused.

OK, it appears that you did manage to copy the fonts into the "Microsoft" fonts folder. Now, as to why they don't work and only one does, you'll have to address that question to Microsoft. I have had that same problem with certain fonts that I wanted to use with Word and Powerpoint only to find out they were not compatible. Compatibility is as defined by Microsoft, not Apple. You might also notice that many of the fonts listed in the Microsoft folder are duplicates of those that are supplied by Apple. As to why Microsoft does that, again, you'll have to ask them.

Not trying here to be sarcastic about this but this is a subject that many of us who use MS Office have tried to sort out. It's even worse with Office 2016 as each component of Office (Word, PP, Excel) have their own fonts folders.

The bottom line is if you need special fonts for certain projects in your classroom, you should first make sure they will work with Office. I usually try to find free fonts (there are plenty available) to use. This way if they don't work with Office, I can just delete them or keep them for use with other apps.
