How to Make a Directory in Terminal

My question is as titled. This is what I've been instructed to do. If someone could walk me though this, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Way... way too many specs to list.
Generally, for Unix based systems, when you see something in these < > that's the name.. so

mkdir <directory>

Would be something like.. lets say I want to make a directory called foobar, in the directory I am currently IN.

mkdir foobar

Please don't mess with the terminal on the behest of others if you are not comfortable enough there to make a directory. This is just asking for trouble.

I have to agree with Ashwin... The terminal is NOT a place to be doing things "because someone told you to" as you could be opening yourself up to issues. You should never EVER type something, click somewhere, or "Accept" anything on a computer that you don't understand what the implications of doing it are.
