The latest version of the calendar app is 8.0 and one of the options from the Calendar "File" menu is to create a new group. What happens when you try that?

chscag, not in my Calendar. It's 8.0 and File does not have that option.

My calendar app is 8.0 (2092.2) and the "File" menu item clearly shows the option "New Calendar Group".

Any idea why my exactly the same version doesn't, as you can see in my screenshot?

Here's a screenshot of what my calendar File menu looks like:

I have no idea why your File menu does not show that option Jake unless somehow your calendar app did not get updated.

Could it be that the column on the left does not have "On My Mac" as a category? I don't know why that is, but the only place in Calendar Help that mentions groups refers to "On My Mac."

That shouldn't make any difference. As long as I can remember, the calendar app has always had the option to add calendar groups. Maybe it's because I've been updating the app over the years that it's kept the option. Did you reinstall OS X clean at some point in time? By the way, I updated my screen shot that I messed up the first time. :)

That may be it, I did a fresh install when I put in a new SSD. I just looked at an iMac that has never been freshly installed, always updated and it show your menu, not mine. That's weird.

Ok, I'm running 10.10.5 and Version 8.0 (2034.9) of Calendar and I am seeing the following (no Groups);

How can I update the calendar app to the latest version? Is it possible to do this without updating to El Capitan?

Why don't you want to upgrade your version of OS X to El Capitan? And the answer is no, you can't update the calendar.app without moving up to El Capitan.

OK, now it's getting really weird. I just tried again and the Create New Group is there. It's showing exactly what you posted, chscag. I did nothing but leave it alone since the previous post.

For the OP, have you tried the key combo that shows in chacag's post?

Yes, in his picture of his manu, you can see that the keyboard combo for Create new group is Shift, Command, N, all pressed together. Does that work?

Gremlins Jake. It's the Gremlins and I suspect you've been watering them. :p

Yeah, maybe, but even the key combination doesn't bring up anything today. So sometime the function appeared, then disappears. Could it be something in the plist? What if I deleted the plist, would Cal then recreate it and maybe restore the function? What's curious is that when I searched at Apple for creating Calendar Groups it's not there, but there is a reference to groups here at Apple under keyboard shortcuts, but on my system that shortcut doesn't work tonight after working last night.
