I want to create a slide show with the slides coming up in a particular order.
HOW do I sort them by file name. To make things easier, I titled the files in order, by number.
This app isn't very good.
thanks.

And what app is that? Are you referring to the app that you used to create the slides?

I want to create a slide show with the slides coming up in a particular order.
Create your slideshow, then just drag the photos into the order that you want them to show.

You can also rearrange them after you've dragged them in. It really works quite simply and well.

Hi,
thanks for the replies.
the app is Photos in Mac.
I tried to drag items around into the order I wanted, but everything was stuck in place.
The program was sorting the visuals by date (default?) and there was no way to change that (or at least no way I could find) You’d think there would be a simple “Sort by…” drop down, but alas, no.
The default sort order is by date

Workaround:
1. copied all files into separate folder.
2. batch renamed (numbered) the files in the order I wanted, i.e. 1.jpg, 2.jpg, …. 205.jpg (didn't solve the problem).
3. batch changed the creation dates to the same day and time. (didn't solve the problem)
4. finally, wiped all the metadata from the files (that did it)

So without any other parameter allowing the program's preferred sorting order, it got dragged (kicking and screaming?) into allowing me to put the files in the order I wanted

Pretty clumsy, but it worked.

thanks again.

clarkem, if the photos for your slide show are in an album then the Sort command offers you three options "Title" being the one you want I think. Screen Shot 2015-11-15 at 14.24.20.png

Hi Rod,
I must have my app set up wrong. The photos are in an album, but my View pulldown menu doesn't have the options yours does.
You're right, the Sort by Title would have been the one I would assume would sort by file name, but it's not there. Oldest and newest wouldn't work as many of the files have been copies, scanned, etc.
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts.

clarkem, what version of Photos are you using. Sorry, I did assume that you were running El Capitan and if so you should be running Photos 1.2 after the last update.

clarkem - Have you tried actually clicking on "Keep sorted by date". Do the options then appear?

clarkem,, are you saying that if you open one of your slideshows; ie, M$M's or Untitled in your screenshot, you can't drag the thumbnails into the order that you want them?

Yes I can,
But with over 200 pix, you can imagine what a confusing hassle that would be. One that could be avoided is the **** app would just please sort by title.

Question: As Rod observed, I am on Yosemite. Is that a problem that El Capitan has solved?

And... why are such obvious capabilities, that have been around for years, not in these updates? Is it all a program of dumbing down all apps to operate on the lowest common denominator (read: operating platform)?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Yes, I can see the problem there. Just wanted to make sure.

Not the first time that Apple have done this. iMovie06HD to iMovie08 was a another prime example.

clarkem, I do beleive that more sorting options was touted as being an addition to the latest version of Photos. You didn't mention which version of Photos you have but if it is earlier than 1.2 that may well explain the difference between yours and my options. I don't use this app much but my thinking is this change was added in Ver 1.1.

Dear All,

You’ve all been so attentive and helpful. I really appreciate the support this site provides.

MightyGem: agree. I had iMovie06HD in Snow Leopard with a large notification in the finer: O NOT UPDATE!. ’08 was a huge step backwards and why I decided to learn FCPX.

Rod: I don’t use this app much, in fact this is the first time as I wanted to easily(?) make a slide show to incorporate into a FCPX movie.

I’m not planning on updating to El Capitan since I’ve just gotten used to Yosemite and except for this silly Photos app, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

My clumsy work around (above) has solved the immediate problem so I’ll just go with that.

Thanks again, folks.
