iTunes 11.0.5 - how to show iTunes store search results as list

Hi, I've got a new Macbook pro, which came with iTunes 11.0.5. I previously had an iMac which ran an earlier version of iTunes (not sure which).

I often search the iTunes store for podcasts and iTunes U episodes on a particular topic or speaker. With the old version you could select 'show all' for each category and then get a list with full details e.g. length, date, description. Now the episode results only show as icons (see attached screenshot), making it much slower to narrow down which episodes I want to download. If you click on one of the icons, it takes you to the whole podcast page, which you then have to scour for the episode that came up in the original search, and that still doesn't show the length of the episode!

Can anyone tell me how to show iTunes store search results as a list again, instead of as icons? I have tried everything but weirdly it's not an option in 'View' or under preferences.

Thanks so much!

No, didn't miss that - but that's the view for podcasts you've already subscribed to or downloaded individually. I'm talking about going to the iTunes store and searching there for episodes on a particular topic. The results view in my screenshot is really unhelpful as it tells me nothing about the length, format or content of the episode - the description is the most important of all. It used to be much easier as the results would look basically like the 'list' view in your own podcast library shown in your screenshot. I just wish there was a list view when you click "see all". This also enabled you to order the results by length, size or date too. Surely this must be possible still and I'm missing it?!

iTunes Store Search Results

Oh, I see what you mean. You can change View Options in the list of subscribed feeds to include size but in the Store there appear to be no view options other than the one in your screen shot. I can see why that could be annoying for your purposes. I will keep playing with it and let you know if I find any solutions, maybe I missed something myself.:\

I did however find this after a bit of tinkering. I still don't think this is what you want. This is the Column Browser view, you can customise the view (strangly not by going to View > View Options) but by clicking on the right hand side of the to the right of the price column. see screen shot.

Thanks Rod - appreciate you having a look at this! Unfortunately the Column Browser view doesn't seem to help when searching. It looked promising, but when I then enter a search term it goes back to the usual results view. Also, very bizarre to have to narrow down the results by genres such as Arts, Health, News & Politics etc. Even if it did let me use this view for searching, I'd be sure to miss some good stuff by being forced to narrow it down into one of these categories.

Pity, they seem to have made it almost impossible for me to use iTunes any more as this is basically all I ever used it for! (Incidentally, I can't seem to search my own library any more either... I put in a search term and I get this odd little drop down showing results on the right but again without any of the details I need such as date and length. This is whether I am in 'List' or 'My podcasts'. Any idea how to get those results showing as a full list like they used to?!)

Thanks very much for your help!

* I might have semi-solved the question about searching my library. It's not as good as it used to be but if I click on 'Unplayed' along the top, this does seem to narrow it down to the episodes relating to that search term. Obviously it will miss the ones I've played or started playing which is annoying, but at least it shows results relating to that search with the length and the ability to get the full description. In 'My Podcasts' I have to scroll down looking for a '1' next to a particular show and that identifies podcasts episodes on that topic. The only really useless view is 'List' because that shows every single episode in each podcast, making it very hard if not impossible to find the relevant one!

Still very much open to input about how to get useful iTunes Store search results though! I've submitted feedback about this to Apple too (via Apple - iTunes - Feedback) in the hope that they fix it soon.
