Hey so I have several different account set up in Mail and for some reason as far as I can see, randomly ask for my account password. So I'll put the password in, continue with business as usual and then a while later ask for it again. Even if I check to remember in keychain it always seems to forget it.

Under accounts in preferences I also notice that after several days the pw seems to disappear so I put it in again which seems to stop it from asking me for a while until a while later when it starts all over again.
Any ideas?

EDIT: sorry running OS X 10.6.7 with Mail 4.5

Try deleting the mail account password entry in the keychain application and create a new one making sure you save it. And don't forget to change the password with your ISP to match the new one you selected.

The reason that can happen is keychain entries occasionally get corrupt and will not remember the password.

After upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3, and then nearly updating to 10.6.7, failed connection meant poor download, Mail has deleted all my passwords in all my accounts, requiring me to enter passwords every time it accesses my POP accounts.

This used to happen occasionally, and would self correct.

I have tried everything I can think of, from deleting all accounst in mail, deleting keychain password accounts, re-installing mail, and .........

After many attempts to get Mail to accept and save passwords, in the end I re-upgraded 10.6.3 to 10.6.3 again, waited the hour, and fortunately Mail now accepts and saves passwords for all my POP mail accounts.

Fingers crossed this is a permanent thing.

Though, as others have said, occasionally under 10.5.8 Mail passwords would seem to not be available for POP, but which always corrected itself after a couple of hours, which I put down the the ISP mail service being down.

Did you try changing your password from your ISP's web site? I had the same problem not too long ago. What cured it was going to my ISP's web site and access my account. I changed the master password there and then went back and made the changes in Mail and saved it. Problem solved.

And please do not cross post! You replied to this thread and then started a new one with the same subject. I've merged your posts together here. Thanks.
