Alright so here's whats going on. I decided to import all my music into iTunes, and its time to organize.

I have a bunch of single tracks, but i want to keep them tidy and perhaps in one album labeled by its Genre. So all my "Alt Rock" singles organized under one album.

But here is the catch; I would really like to maintain the Album details, in case in the future i want to look that info up or I download/purchase the remainder of the album.

In the past, I erased the album details and replaced it with a title for the group of single. But that was with a few songs, not i have alot more songs.

Any suggestions?

You can batch-label Genre tags in iTunes.

Just select all the songs (or at least a group of them), Get Info on them, change the "Genre" tag ONLY to what you want, and save. That's it.

This will not affect any info you have in other fields like Album name, artist name etc.

Hey Chas, thanks for the reply.

I totally got the changing the ID3Tag/details within iTunes. But setting them all to a certain Genre wont solve my dilemma.

I would like for a group of single tracks, to show up as 1 album in the Grid/album view.
Say i have 100 single tracks, all by different artist, when I am in the Grid/album view, that will display 100 albums + all my other albums i already have in iTunes.

But at the same time, i would like for the original album detail to still be in place.

Ill bet there is a very easy way of doing this but here is how I did exactly what you want but with only 50 tracks , I had to label them all as a compilation and as a made up album but then was able to paste all the original album info under the notes for the individual songs so I have the "Album" Weekend in reno- and one of the cuts is Willie Nelson Always on my mind 1 of 50 part of a comp and under notes for that song I have the original album info that I pasted there as I created the album.

Now I know all you smart youngsters are about to tell me how I could have done this in 5 mins instead of the hour it took me....

Anyway I hope it helps

Hey Clay, thanks for the info.

That would perfect if all of my tracks were from the same album. But since they are all from different albums, it would take me for ever to move the the Album details to the notes field for each track. Unless i used some type of script, Hmmm which could be a possibility.

I think I found a Script to do what I need.

This Tag, That Tag Scripts v2.0:
Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes ♫ This Tag, That Tag Scripts v2.0

It allows me to move certain "Tags" to a different Tag field. I havent tried it yet, but i will once i get home.

I will move the album details, to the notes. Then create a generic album name, so the songs are grouped together.

You could have made a playlist and dragged those songs to the playlist. The originals with their album names would be in your music library and the playlist on the side would be a compilation album of sorts.
