Sorry if this has been covered before - no doubt it has but I was unable to find a solution whilst searching.

I'm transferring my iTunes library via an external HD from my XP box to my lovely new 20" iMac ;)

Every time I import to library I end up with duplicate songs. I have tried checking and unchecking the "Copy imported files to iTunes library" option but I still get duplicate songs.

As you can imagine, with more than 8,000 tracks and tens of video files this is a real pain!

Can someone help?

Thanks guys :headphone

G'day Frankie Angels.

When you say duplicates ... do you mean your iTunes library contains duplicates?

OR

There is a copy @ the iTunes Library Folder & Your Hard Drive (not the xtrnal one)?

I think the tracks may have been copied over to your iTunes Music folder on your iMacs hard drive. Try removing all tracks then just adding the iTunes Music folder not the external hard disc files. Clear your iTunes library completely and close iTunes. Goto your iTunes Music folder and check for any music in there, if there is then put it in the Trash. Open iTunes and goto Preferences and click on Advanced, make sure "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is unchecked, click OK and then try importing your music again.

Hopefully that will do the trick.

You can delete the second copy indapino. Just not the copy in your iTunes library.
