As the title states... Apple today has removed the iPod Nano and Shuffle from their website. Only the iPod Touch remains with a new pricing structure.

That's too bad. Always liked these smaller iPod's. Especially the Shuffle...due to it's super small footprint & weight (very very nice for music when working out).

I guess since many folks have a lot of music on thier smartphones...less & less need for iPod's in general.

Just for the heck of it...I went to ifixit.com to see what the battery replacement procedure was like on an iPod Shuffle. The procedure is described as "Very Difficult"...with this warning:

"Accessing the internals of the 4th generation Shuffle is extremely difficult, as the rear panel is both glued to the front case and secured by metal retaining clips. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to remove the rear panel without inflicting cosmetic and/or structural damage".

Yeah, unfortunately both the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano are very difficult to change out the battery. We have been through at least 4 Nanos and around 10 Shuffles over the years. The last batch of Shuffles I bought were from the on line Military Exchange when they were on sale for $29.00 each. We bought 4 at once and still have one left unused. Also bought a 16GB Nano that was on sale at Best Buy around a month ago.

Ordered 2 of them this evening from Best Buy. Best player for the gym. Small and light.

Such a shame. Not only Shuffle but the whole tendency towards one device "to rule them all". I like the concept of a small, light, undemanding device crafted to serve a single purpose, but serve it perfectly. AND with a much longer battery life. A decent camera, a good music player... You know, maybe I am old-fashioned, but when I travel I prefer this old-school stuff. Much more reliable that a smartphone. No power bank can fix that.

Apple should go ahead and remove every iPod.
The prices for an iPod Touch are just plain ridiculous. I can get a crummy galaxy phone from 4 years ago, pop in a 256 GB card and do the same thing as a touch...For maybe 60$.

Better yet, I can get a dedicated player that plays music with much better fidelity for 100$

They need the prices to come down to earth, or get rid of it all together.

A Galaxy phone or dedicated player can not run iOS apps. Most folks who still buy the Touch buy it not only for the player but also because it pretty much does everything an iPhone does except make and answer phone calls. However, I do agree that they're overpriced. If you think the iPod Touch is overpriced, wait until all the prices for the iPhone Ten are announced. ;D

Why, is it thought the iPhone 10 will be most expensive? Do you mean the iPhone X? ;)

The iPhone X is the iPhone 10. One and the same. Don't you remember your Roman Numerals from grade school? X = 10. :)

And not to forget that "x" can also signify an unknown or even a place. … :Smirk:

Shame - I use a Nano in the car, through the USB port.

I don't want to have to use my iPhone for that, partly because the iPhone is too large to fit near the USB port and partly because I don't want to carry all of the music on the iPhone - just so I can listen to it in the car.

Also, the Shuffle is very useful when out walking due to its small size :)

Why and what's the problem????

Just because Apple has discontinued the iPod Nano and Shuffle from its lineup is no reason to have to stop using it. Gheese, I sure hope they don't have that much control over users!!!

They don't sell or support the iPhone 4 anymore either, but my wife's one still works well enough for her needs until it maybe gets replaced with something "supported".

I don't think member "Nighthawk4" said he was going to stop using his Nano. He like most of us is probably thinking that there will be no replacement for it when the current Nano dies. The Nano and Shuffle are just about impossible to replace a battery in them. At least not without destroying the device in the process. Go to ifixit and look at the procedures.

Good points thanks Chas and poor translation and misunderstanding on my part.

But it does seem there are alternatives out there so someone was thinking logically and about the lowly paying consumer:

I agree there are alternatives. We purchased about 6 or 7 different alternative music players at various costs. Most of them were difficult to load up with our recordings and of course none of them could be automatically synced from iTunes like the Shuffle or Nano. Yes, they were inexpensive and looked good but generally were a waste of money and time.

You can go on Amazon and do a search for MP3 or music players and you'll get an idea of what I'm referring to.

By the way, we did try out several SanDisk players. The Sony players were all way too expensive and their built in software was designed for Windows although they could be used on a Mac in manual mode. I can't speak for the other suggestions in that article.
