I have songs on my iPod that I want to put back on my MAC. They are not in my iTunes account so I am afraid they will be erased when I sync. They are from old CDs I no longer have. How can I load all my iPod tunes into iTunes at this point. Don't know if I made this clear.

Why don't you tell the forum how you solved this instead of having us erase your post?

The opening sticky on this forum deals with this subject. I stupidly didn't check before submitting my post. BTW love this forum site.

I dare say that sticky is a bit old by todays standards and OS versions, but not knocking the suggestions, but you might want to consider or have a look at and the comments for some others at:

iMazing
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27830/imazing

iExplorer
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31722/iexplorer

as well as the "Similar Software" suggestions listed there.

And sure nothing wrong with Senuti which was one of the first utilities to provide the music iTunes moving.

Note it's name, iTunes spelt backwards. Clever. ;)

PS: If it will work for you, the old free Senuti version is still at:
http://wstein.org/senuti/

BTW, the new version of "iMazing" (iMazing 2) was recently reviewed by Macworld who gave it raving reviews. I updated my copy to the new version which also now can backup your iOS devices without iTunes and also restore them. Lots of options with the new version. A must have in my opinion if you own iOS devices.

I came across the iMazing 2 upgrade and they're on my 2-do list to call as to why my old registration number doesn't get listed at their upgrade site. Also a bit odd that my old v. 1.5.10 said it was all up to date and no sign of any "2" version.

But chscag, maybe you could confirm my other question which is, if one does a backup of an iDevice running iOS 9.1 for example, and it gets update to iOS 9.3.x, can iMazing 2 then if needed or wanted, restore the iDevice back to where it was with iOS 9.1?

Thanks for your info. I haven't been able to find that precise info.

I got my notice about the upgrade at just the right time. A couple of weeks ago the HDD in my wife's Win 10 box gave up the ghost. Unfortunately, it had her audiobooks on it. I think we had a separate backup but I didn't want to synch the iPad she uses as a reader just in case. I think I recovered everything. We'll know soon.

Good question because I too had the older version (actually got it for free during a special) and was notified that version 2 was available. The upgrade to version 2 was $19.99 if I remember correctly.

Good question. I really do not know if it would take you back, but since it does not rely on iTunes, I don't see why it couldn't.

For those using both (or have experience) iExplorer and iMazing, which one seems to be the better app? I'm asking because about a year ago, I purchased a 2-pack of iExplorer for my Macs - cost about $50 - now the app (v. 3.10 - believe the newest is 4.x) does not work w/ my upgraded macOS or iOS machines - looked to see if I could obtain a discounted price to upgrade but not clear - left an email?

SO, if the iExplorer people are going to charge me another $40 or more to get their upgrade, I might just consider switching to iMazing depending on the opinions here and online - any comments will help - thanks, as always. Dave :)

RadDave, check the comments, especially from the developer, and maybe they can help you out from their comment at:
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31722/iexplorer

I had read that it wan't being updated but that don't seem to be the case according to that site, but even the latest version still needs and relies on an updated iTunes to work if that matters.

I haven't used my older copy for some time as its "demo" seems to have run out, yet I can carry on after I click "Use Demo". I don't think I'll trust that and I'm sure not going to spend any $40.00usd on it, especially when my iMazing upgrade should be about 1/2 the cost and does more.

Your milage and requirements may differ…

You're right about iExplorer, the 3.X version does not work with Sierra nor will it update any further. I was able to download the newer version 4.10 but have so far not installed it as I believe it will require a new license. However, I don't know for sure if the new license is a free update or additional cost.

I'm now using iMazing 2 since it seems to have more features and has the added convenience of being able to do backups and restores without using iTunes. But before you decide, why don't you contact iExplorer Support and ask about the license?

Thanks Patrick & Chscag for your quick responses - I sent an email to iExplorer Support about whether my previous $50 purchase of their 3.x version entitles me to at least a discount? If not, then I'll take a closer look @ the other app which seems to have more features. Dave :)

@Dave:

I just installed version 4 (after renaming version 3 so not to overwrite) and tried to apply my version 3 license code. It didn't work, after which I was directed to their site to buy a new license. Going there, I did not see anything about an upgrade price from version 3 to 4. Buying a license for version 4 is another $40 which I refuse to pay if that's all there is. I will be interested in the answer you receive from their support.

Thanks Chscag for your efforts - I downloaded the newest version of iExplorer but did not do an install - from your experience, appears that I would get the same response - let me await the developer's response and I'll post back here - but still would appreciate your opinion on iExplorer vs. iMazing, as the best choice - would be willing to switch if there is no discounted upgrade price from iExplorer - thanks again for your input - Dave :)

Comparing iExplorer 3.X to iMazing 2 is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. The latest version of iMazing 2 is easier to use and as I stated above, more convenient. However, I received iMazing for free during a promotional thing they had around 5 months ago. I then was notified of an upgrade to iMazing 2 for $19.99, which I purchased. A license for iMazing is $40.00 while a license for iExplorer 4 is the same price - $40.00.

Well, thanks again! :) If iExplorer wants $40 again, I see no choice but to switch over to iMazing - will await the response from the former's website - Dave

Well, not expected, i.e. I was given a 'free registration code' to iExplorer v. 4.x - first quote below my email sent to Macroplant Support - second quote, a response from Josh the next day providing me a 'free' code - installed the newest version and the code indeed activated the app - since I was given use on two computers will also install on my iMac. Dave :)

Hi David,

iExplorer 4 uses a different registration code than iExplorer 3 since it’s an all new, major version of the software that includes support for iOS 10 as well as many other enhancements such as an improved UI and faster performance. Your purchase did not include an upgrade to the next major version, but since we really appreciate you choosing iExplorer and recommending it to anyone, I will make an exception and give you a complimentary upgrade to iExplorer 4. Here’s a new code you can use to register it and unlock everything:

Good one Dave! I think though that I will just stick with iMazing 2 since it does everything I need. It also seems easier to use than iExplorer although I have no idea what the new version is like. If need be, I can still use my iExplorer 3.

Hi Chscag - a surprising but welcomed email - I've not used the app that much but will look at the new interface & features - already installed on two computers. Thanks again for your help. Dave :)
