I cannot update my iPod Nano to 1.0.4, get the following message:

The iPod “Karen Brown’s iPod” cannot be updated because it contains files that are in use by another application.

Can't eject it for the same reason. (I can eject from the Finder.)

I have a Mac running El Capitan. I've restarted iTunes several times. I cleared all of my 4000 songs off the iPod. I reset the Settings. Nothing else is running on it—nothing else is on it at all!

I started this because it's been messing up in my car.

Turning it off and on doesn't do anything either.

Oh, and when I eject from Finder, I get the message "The disk wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it."

Okay...more: I just tried updating my husband's iPod Nano and his can't be updated for the same reason!

The one thing I did not do was restart my Mac. Just letting you all know that worked the magic.

Incredible isn't it? How often we forget the obvious, always looking for some complicated solution. Been there before. Anyway, good for you.
