Yesterday my screen suddenly locked. When I press the control button the option to enter my password appears but when I tap the screen nothing happens. I tried to turn it off but moving the slider didn't work. I am trying to run the battery right down to see if it works when I recharge it but am not too hopeful.

I tried ringing my iPhone and was able to answer it but virtual keyboard still not working.

Hi Alwyn, I take it from the forum heading you're talking about an iPhone but which one and which iOS? Is it recent or very old, you mention the "control" button by which I assume you mean the Home button so it's obviously not one of the newer models because they don't have a home button. It's important to know because the reset/restart process is different with different models. So let us know.

Which iPhone is this? if it's one with the physical home button, then hold that and the power button until the phone restarts. If it's the newer ones without the home button, then hit volume up, release, hit volume down, release and then press and hold the power button until the phone resets.

Hi Ashwin,

Sorry to have been unable to reply until now (locked ou). I was providing refreshments for some young music undergraduates at our local concert hall that Sunday who of course knew exactly what to do, which was just as you explained.
Many thanks,
Colin.
