Maybe I was right all along for not using screen protector, either with Android, iPhone or Windows smartphones:

You Probably Don’t Need a Screen Protector – Review Geek

Neither of my smartphones had the screen scratched, or broken during the last 10-15 years. My favored Windows smartphone broke, when I fell in to salt water, but the screen was still perfect...:wink

If you are buying the typical $10 - $15 protectors discussed in most of that article I'd tend to agree. I bought a somewhat better one through my carrier for about $40 from my carrier. The previous one was included with my iPone X when I upgraded.

The old protecter had to be replaced because I dropped the phone 3 or 4 times. The last drop was from about 3 feet in the air onto the rough, bumpy, concrete surface of a wheelchair ramp. After that, the protector looked like the kind of rock chip often seen in windshields. The screen underneath was pristine. I can generally go more than a year before those get scratched enough to annoy me.

Yeah, no. I'll stick with my tempered glass screen protector. I got a 3-pack when I got my iPhone XS and after about an hour of installing it, I was getting out of the car and my phone fell out of my pocket and on the floor. When I picked it up, there was no damage to the screen except the screen protector that took the brunt of the damage and cracked. I peeled it off and put a new one in place and was fine. About 8 months later the phone dropped again and once again, the screen protector took the damage, the 3rd replacement went on. I now have a new set of 3 protectors for when the phone drops again.

Paying insurance JUST to have the screen replaced is totally overkill. Have you even priced out a screen replacement with your local shop? It will easily start at around $300 and go up from there depending on the device.

So yeah, no and no again. I'll stick with $10 3-pack screen protectors.

Well, we've owned at least 8 iDevices since 2011, mostly iPads (I'm on my 3rd) which we use 'smart covers', so never felt a need for any 'screen protector' on those devices, especially in view of the quality of Gorilla glass - but in August, we replaced the wife's iPhone 6 w/ a XR, and I also got the XR (Verison had a 2 for 1 deal on that model) - the gal setting us up encouraged adding screen protectors to the new iPhones, so we went w/ a Pure-Gear product (Japanese tempered glass w/ a warranty), about $35 each - she installed and have had no problem w/ viewing the screen or the touch response - I keep mine in a belt case and have not dropped it yet (although on several Carolina coastal boat trips earlier in the year, I could have dropped it in the water taking pics!) - not sure that I'm a proponent but from the other posts, I do feel more at ease now. I agree with Ashwin. My wife beat up her 6+ so badly that it had cracks and chips that were very annoying. We peeled off the glass tempered screen protector and the screen was like new. We wound up giving that phone to a friend who could not afford to buy one. My wife now uses a 7+ with a tempered glass screen protector. I also use the same thing on my 8.

That's what's convinced me as well. The first one I got was part of a bundle the carrier offered. When I finally peeled it off to trade in the phone it was scratched and there was some dry underwent the protector. Even she was surprised when she peeled off the protector and the screen underneath was pristine. The 3 for $15 protectors aren't worth it. I can put one good one on and go more than a year without replacing it.

Out of all of my family members and friends, there's one who uses screen protector. He tried to convince me to do the same, but I didn't budge. The other friend of mine had her iPhone 5 or 6 screen cracked this year, she just replaced it with iPhone 11. She did not opt for a screen protector. While this is just a small sample, about 30 - 40 people, sometimes it's hard not to judge the world through this small window.

When my wife switched her Android smartphone to iPhone 6s, she wanted to have a screen protector. That lasted about two hours and off it came. Her 6s is like my 8+, like new and no scratches anywhere. Yes, both of the iPones have a slim case without screen protector.

As the linked article mentions, utilizing screen protector is dependent on the use case, that can be environmental and/or behavioral based. If I'd be a life guard on the beach, certainly, there would be a use case for a screen protector, specially, if I have butter fingers. Working in my home office with limited travel time and past history with smartphones, it's a use case for no screen protector. In short, for each of its own...
