Our Iphone 5s just told us we need to configure, but Itunes or Wifi will not recognize the phone. i get the warning, screenshot attached. I removed and reinserted the sim card. when I plug the phone into iTunes, it tells me to update, I do, but without luck. Then I can't even get back to the library to SEE the device to try and reformat or work with it at all. I get a blank screen with the name of my phone at the top of the screen. I don't care if we reformat and lose all the data...it was just used for music. Any suggestions?

thanks!
David

Hi Rod,

Thanks for the idea...I tried and AS SOON AS I hold down the top button, the apple logo comes on. the directions say to hold down for 3 seconds AND then hold down the home button, both for 10 seconds...if I see the apple logo I am in recovery mode, and NOT DFU. I tried holding both simultaneously immediately with the same results. any other thoughts?

I also get a warning: iTunes could not back up the iPhone because a session could not be started with the iPhone. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again"

As noted in the article it's not easy to get the process timing right. Last time I did this was on a click wheel iPod but if you persevere you will get it, I did, after about 5-6 tries.

Remember it has to be plugged in to your computer, iTunes needs to be running, and then you need to turn the iPhone off before beginning the process. Here is a You Tube clip on both how to get into Recovery Mode (which might work for your problem) as well as DFU mode. YouTube
