My friend, an android user, has a very useful accessory for his Samsung cell phone, a. magnetic power cord that has a swivel connection, allowing 360 degree turn while charging. It also provides one-handed connection, while driving for example.

Is there a similar accessory for my iPhone, either by Apple or third party?

Not quite sure what a magnetic charger cord looks like? There are numerous accessories for smartphones available from just about anywhere. Try Amazon.com, Best Buy.com, Staples, Office Depot, as a start.

Just using your description for a Google search finds lots of various options, but you may have to narrow the search down to find a swivel model. Otherwise just head off and have a look at some of these:
Samsung cell phone, a. magnetic power cord that has a swivel connection
YouTube
YouTube

And a whole bunch via here:
Samsung cell phone, a. magnetic power cord that has a swivel connection - Google Search

You should be able to find something pretty close to what you were looking for from those various selections.

And some swivel models even:

Google searching can be very helpful and your friend.

Where I live it's illegal to use a phone manually while driving. There is a lobby in the UK which thinks ALL phone use, even handsfree, should be banned. I'm not in favour of that as I use mine for navigation rather than the in-built satnav whih I have not updated because of costs.

The same law applies here, but I fail to see the difference between using a cell phone in a proper holder and fiddling around with a car's built-in nav/music system, which apparently is quite legal.

I have to agree. Our new Honda CRV has got more gadgets built into the dash display than I or my wife can handle. Not just a radio, but also a complete system which seems to control the vehicle, including cameras, menus, etc. It took me several days to figure out how to even turn on the radio and program stations.

Which is why I enjoy driving my ancient Mustang. (1998) No gadgets. It even has a cassette player. LOL.

Not only that but in the UK its illegal to eat or drink while driving but OK to light a cigarette, smoke, blow ones nose, retune the radio, insert a CD in to the player... Sometimes the law is an ***.

Nice.
BTW: Our youngest son and his wife just bought an older used Honda CRV as it had some nicer features and less dash confusion gadgets.

Agreed.

BTW: Years ago a young fellow was killed when he swerved and drove his VW head-on into the '65 Rambler (Canadian built-like-a tank) I was driving with our children and some friends, and apparently he had been inserting a CD into the player that was low down under the dash. There was no sign of his head as he drove into us which was like a super slow motion nightmare. Thank God we all survived, but sh*t happened for the young driver unfortunately. But his actions were all legal.

It's worse than that.

I own a Lexus car. It has a computer and a "Mouse" on a stick. Legally whilst driving, I can bring up maps, plan a route, enter postcodes (ZIP codes), explore places of interest, find out times of opening of castles and the like. Music, radio.... all controlled via the mouse.

Around 90% of the global population is right-handed. In the UK, we have right-hand drive, as you all know. Therefore, I must control the Mouse with my left hand. For any right-handed person, this is a challenge. Try doing it on your Mac with your left hand. It's unsteady and requires visual concentration - whilst controlling the car.

This is ludicrous, but legal.

But it is illegal to use a hand-held phone or text or email while driving. My personal view is that all of the above should be illegal. Of course, there is never a policeman in sight, so young and old text, email and use hand-held phones.

I understand that in the military, from a very young age, people are taught to multitask; but for the other 95% of the population what I have described above is dangerous. Personal view. Crazy world we live in.

Good grief. That's beyound absurd!!

And I would have to say that's a clasic case of RCI thinking.

RCI = Rectal Cranial Inversion.

The problem is they (the legislators) don't know what to do, so they do something that has no thought behind it but makes them feel good about doing something. If the problem is your hands being busy with a phone, then what about things like turn indicators, gear shifters, even simple radio controls, environmental controls, etc., etc., etc? If the problem is that your brain is engaged in the conversation on the phone instead of on the road, what about talking to your passengers, listening to a talk show on the radio, or an audiobook being read to you? And what about children in the back seat talking to you as you drive, or distracting you by banging on the back of your seat? The legislators don't know what to do, so they just make a stupid law making it illegal to "use" a phone and go home happy, having "done something" about it.

I was aircrew in a two-crew airplane. I was taught to operate the weapon system, talk on the radio/intercom, keep a watch for other aircraft and monitor the actions of the pilot, all at the same time. It's a matter of not getting too focused on one thing at the expense of all the others. It is teachable. Maybe driving schools ought to teach it and driving tests test for it?

And I'll bet you are a very good alert and SAFE automobile driver due to that training and experience.

One should end up with the same result!!

Unfortunately, the condition seems to be quite contagious.

Patrick, unfortunately I still have that need for speed. I do tend to get a bit heavy-footed. But not distracted! ;)

LOL, that reminds me of a good friend of mine that recently paid $700.00 for one of those highly sophisticated radar detectors. He's driving a fully loaded 2019 Camaro. It makes no sense to me to have an auto that can go 150 MPH that costs around $45K and not be able to use it on any US highway at those speeds.

Here in VA those detectors are illegal. I try to keep things under control with cruise controls in the car. Last year I rented a car that had a cruise control that had both upper and lower limit controls. So I could set the range I wanted to be within and the car just did its thing. Combined with radar for the traffic in front of me, basically I set it and then steered. It took care of the speed for me. Left to my own, it's hammer down.

Technically the fastest I've driven myself is about 120 mph. I have been in a NASCAR vehicle with a professional driver at 170 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Airborne, we used to cruise around in the A-6 at about 360kts (415mph), accelerating to 540kts (620 mph) for the attack run. In the Buccaneers of the Royal Navy (I was on exchange for two years) we cruised around at 480kts, accelerating to 600kts (690mph) for attack runs. Six hundred knots at 50 feet is a real rush! Never gone past Mach 1. Never needed to.

Buccaneers - Best Airfix model aircraft, after the Avro (Dambuster) Lancaster obviously!. Loved the revolving bomb bay door. Our local air museum has one - a thing of beauty! Nothing to do with this thread but I just thought I'd throw that in :)

Ian What year and model Lexus do you have? Just bought a 2019 RX350. Still haven't figured out all the controls. Do like the all around camera feature. That and rear and front auto braking. And no hand brake.
The fastest I've ever driven was 135 MPH on the German autobahn around 1985-1986. Did it once in my 1980 208SE...really hugged the road, and once in my wife's 1984 528i BMW...not so much in hugging the road. Never drove that fast again on either car. The autobahns were already getting crowded back then.

Hi Bill Gates

I've had Lexus models for the last 20 years. The current model is the GS 450h Hybrid F Sport. This seems to come with everything including an Online Manual of 400 pages telling me how to use the computer and a larger manual on all the settings and functions of the car!!!

In the past I've had the SC430 Sport which was the best of the lot, but they don't make it now and I'm past the age of super fast sports cars:sd

Camera feature is excellent. Parking sensors also very useful. Despite 3.5 litre sports engine with Hybrid, I regularly get 44 MPG.
