I do plan to get a new battery this week. Understand, though, that I won’t know if this solves the problem for at least another year.

Well as you said your wife said, maybe you can at least get back to having some fun with your life and with your iPhone. :Smirk:

Maybe a new battery will provide that fun for you. Here's hoping. ;-)

Thanks Patrick. I’m actually quite fortunate to have a very good life. Still strong and healthy after a crazy 69 years.

But, if the new battery works out, what will I have to complain about?

Yesterday’s ride was up in those hills.

Interesting... was that in order to get above what appears to be low-lying cloud, mist, fog or is that smog perhaps that shows in the distance.

It's also interesting that part of the Canadian National bicycle racing team practices on some of the roads next to our place which are almost as flat as the foreground in your picture. We also have similar type hills that they use as well, but the Malahat as it is called is not ideal or safest, especially for bikers, because of the many crazy drivers that don't know how to drive properly that use it.

Very interesting that such a picture, even though taken so far away from where I live, could actually be a shot taken from almost anywhere from right around the area where we live. Even including the occasional layer of low fog. But we have a lot more water close by.

Nice, photos, Patrick.

That ride I did the other day starts at the coast of the Gulf of Siam, just south of Bangkok, and heads west up into the limestone range that forms the border between Thailand and Burma. The valleys are mostly agricultural with dairy, pineapple, papaya, citrus, etc. The roads are excellent with wide shoulders and mostly devoid of traffic. There are many routes, both long and short. Great for cycling, if you don’t mind the heat and humidity.

We have lots of water around here too.

Nice shot, but it does look a bit warm and muggy somehow.

Is that taken anywhere near Korat, Thailand or possibly the Lumtakong that seems to be close by?

And one of your many photos taken with your iPhone perhaps?

That photo is of this morning's sunrise over the Gulf of Siam taken with my 6s from our place at Cha Am, about 200K by road south of Bangkok.

We’re headed home to Korat today so we’ll drive by Lam Takhong this afternoon.

Well, this is interesting. Coconut Battery and my 6s immediately after upgrading to 12.3 and then 24 hours later:

That's quite a bit of difference in Full Charge Capacity.

There was a mention in another forum that the iOS 12.3 update improved the battery charge length for some users. I noticed a slight improvement to my iPhone 8, probably around 10% or so.

I tried to find coconut battery on the app store but nothing. Their site is a zip. Do you have to plug the iphone into a computer to install it? Wanted to try it on my iPhon e 7.

The developer of Coconut Battery began charging a fee for the version that measured battery stats for the iPhone and iPad. I believe he was only charging the fee for the version that did the measurement wirelessly. Otherwise, your iOS device had to be attached to your Mac in order to read the stats. That was some time ago though. I don't know if the app behaves the same way now or not.

And I don't think it can be found in the Mac App Store or the iTunes App Store.

Nothing gets installed on the iOS device; only on the Mac. It's not on any App Store. For the free version you have to connect your device to the Mac to get the battery stats.

When I posted the screenshots above I had just finished my cycling workout and the phone was at 85%. (Normally closer to 90%)

I put the phone down and did some yard work and weight training. I went back to the phone and it was at 55%. 85 to 55 with no use at all. As I watched it counted down: 55-54-53-52-51-50-49-48. Now it seems to be holding at 47%.

Can a bad battery really cause this?

I guess only one way to find out….

Anxiously awaiting to see if there is an improvement when you get that new battery installed.....

Thanks for the info on coconut Battery. Sad it works that way.

On your battery issue, my 5s that I keep as a backup does exactly that. It can drop like a stone just sitting there then sticks on a lower % for a while then drops fast again. I have a feeling the new battery will solve it for you.

I think Apple has dramatically restricted the amount of battery information available to iOS apps. So, to get that level of detail, it pretty much has to be a MacOS app. One wonders how long Coconut Battery will be able to keep grabbing as much as it does.

Thanks for that. It's wonderful to know that one is not alone….

Only time will tell. The one Apple put in last year looked great at the beginning, but after less than a year it was quickly down hill.

One interesting thing. The iPhone said the battery was at 100% but, as you see, Coconut Battery says 96.8%.

A half hour later, still charging, Coconut Battery says 100% at 2043 mAh.
