restore calendar and contacts from (ics and vcf files)
wasn't sure where to post this...

I'm in process of getting new iphone7.
my previous 2 phones had a passcode set for restrictions and I cannot remember it.
so any backups I use to restore retains this passcode.

I thought I would start from scratch.
restore or import calendar file. ics

and do the same for my contacts
restore or import contacts file .vcf

    will this work?
once I get these into new phone, then I can go to provider to get all set up.
take SIM card from old phone SE and put into iPhone 7.

I don't know the answer, but all of my iCloud items just sync through iCloud. Once you sign into the iPhone with your Apple ID, everything should come over.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Am not comfortable with iCloud contacts backup and restore.
iCloud has different number of contacts than I have on iPhone and iPad....
Doesn’t matter if I update or enter new items on contacts inphone.... no change in iCloud contacts!

Correct, if you have selected "On this Device", then iCloud will never be updated.

In that situation, all you need to do is log on to your iCloud account and then select to update your contacts. It should then sync all your contacts across your devices.

that is what I am afraid of...that the contacts which are on iCloud will go to my devices!
and my device contacts are correct.

will just leave for now and hope that when I get my new phone...I can just restore or import contact file (vcf) and calendar file (ics) to new phone
who know what iCloud is going to do....

You can edit your contacts anytime by logging on to your iCloud account and make changes. There is no reason why your iCloud information should not be the same as your contact info on your iPhone or Mac. Remember, you can export your contacts to a VCF file and/or a PDF file. No reason to lose contact information provided you make backups.

Have a read at this article. It tells you how to export contacts from an iPhone. https://www.easeus.com/iphone-data-t...om-iphone.html

That done, you can transfer them to Android phones, in fact, anywhere you like.

This article duplicates some of that information from a Mac; but near the end tells you how you can Import them to your iCloud Contacts. How to Export Contacts from Mac OS X

In other words, what you could easily do is delete your iCloud Contacts completely; then import your "true" contacts taken from your Mac or iPhone back into iCloud Contacts.

Then they would all be the same.

If that seems too cumbersome, although it works, you could simply make a backup of your Mac or iPhone Contacts as above (just in case) - then sign in to iCloud, delete all your contacts from there; then turn on Sync your Contacts via iCloud and it should automatically import them from your iPhone.

As long as you have Exported your Contacts from your Mac or iPhone as a vCard (that's your backup), you can follow either route. Worst case scenario, re-import to iPhone.
