I've tried to get my XR iPhone to work with it but the iPhone doesn't seen to find the car. No problem at all with bluetooth either. Anyone have any luck setting this up?

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Your owners manual has the steps you have to follow. You can also follow the online version here. CarPlay requires you to physically connect the iPhone to the car, it does not work over Bluetooth or any wireless connection. Follow the guides and if you are still having issues, come back here.

    Thanks Bob for the link.

Ashwin owner's manual doesn't talk about physically connecting. It has you hold down the speak button on the steering wheel etc. Didn't work on 2 different vehicles. Gonna see how to connect and install.

To use carplay on my Chevy Colorado I have to connect my iphone to the truck using a lightning to usb cable. I plug one end into he phone and plug the other into the usb slot on the truck. The Carplay button will then work. Bluetooth does not work - at least not in my truck. I am not sure if the phone has to be pair or not.

The usb connection will allow for Carplay to work. You will have Messages, Maps, and Phone calls appearing on your car screen. All of that does not work through bluetooth. I now am driving a GMC with iLink in it. I don't have the Maps, Phone calls or Messages appearing on the car screen. But I do like that when I am on a call and I get in and start the car it is much smoother using bluetooth. When I had carplay and I would plug in the cable and it may, or most likely would not, switch over to speakers. Usually the call dropped. There were a lot of little quirks that made me think carplay is not quite ready for prime time.

The biggest gripe I had was Waze. I love that app but the last update had the Waze map appearing on the car screen with limited reporting functions available. Also it would loose connection and thus no reporting of what was up ahead. I would rest the app to get it working - at least for a while. There was no option to not use the car screen once the usb cable was attached.

I solved the problem by convincing my husband he wanted my truck (with carplay) and I took his new GMC arcadia. Worked out well for both of us. He does not use carplay or bluetooth.

It works. I guess my car doesn’t support wireless, only works when plugged in but that’s cool too.

CarPlay only works when the phone is connected by wire. Pairing the phone by bluetooth only provides limited functionality. It will, for example, usually allow you to access your contacts and make phone calls but you won't have access to Maps unless you are using CarPlay.

You can find a lot of info about Hyundai's CarPlay and Bluetooth suppoirt here. If you poke around a bit you should be able to find info on your specific model.

BTW I've been looking at bluetooth and CarPlay info for the last several months and every model has similar limitations. There are some funcrions that are only fully supported through CarPlay. That's just the way things have evolved to this point.

Slydude thanks for link. Used careplay yesterday going to Apple Store and it worked great, got me right to store with no problem. Not sure how much data it uses like that using maps as gps but love the way it worked.

Glad to hear that the information was helpful.

I'm new to CarPlay and don't use Maps often. I don't think the data use is too bad though. You might give this a quick read. The author describes how he went about calculate the data used during a commute. That method may not help with one off trips but might be a good way to estimate typical useage.

I used to periodically travel into an area withought a good enough signal for Maps to work well. I would plot the route ahead of time on my Mac and save the file as apdf. I could then send the pdf to my phone. When needed I could use the pdf on my phone without needing to burn data. It couldn't provide turn-by-turn naviagation that wy but got me where I was going.

Slydude did read that link you sent. Wife is going to check our data usage cause we use very little but it will be interesting to see. I have about a year old garmin which in my opinion is the best on the market. I've used on on the water also. If carplay uses a lot of data Ill just go back to my garmin, it has lifetime map updates too. Thanks again.
