New to apple iPhone but was wondering does it have a setting in ios12.1 so when the phone has a completely black screen, a blinking light shows to indicate you missed a call?

This might help:

On your iPhone > Settings > Face ID & Passcode (will need to enter Passcode here) > ALLOW ACCESS WHEN LOCKED > turn on "Return Missed Calls".

This will ensure that a missed call shows on your locked screen.

But I don't know of any way of getting a "blinking light". The only place where this setting should be found if there was one is in Settings > General > Accessibility. I've been there on my iPhone X; can't find anything about a flashing or blinking light.

Maybe I've missed something??? Sorry.

Try this little trick and see if it produces the effect you want
  1. Tap on the “Settings” app and then on “General”
  2. Select “Accessibility” in settings
  3. Locate “Tap LED Flash for Alerts” and tap on that
  4. Now toggle the ON switch next to “LED Flash for Alerts”
See here for the full article.

This feature has been part of IOS for some time so the screenshots don't match the current OS but the directions are correct.

The problem gentlemen.... is that the LED is on the back of the iPhone. (It may or may not be seen.) The OP is asking if the same thing can be activated on an iPhone as it is on an Android phone. The answer is no. This is something that users have been asking Apple to implement but so far they have not.

I’ve had that on before and it is quite noticeable even in situations where you don’t expect it towork well. I just tried the directions and didn’t get the flash at all. When I figure out what’s different I’ll update the thread.

I’ve had my phone in the upper part of my front pants pocket and still been able to see the flash.

I generally keep my iPhone 7+ on my desk next me sitting on stand which I also use for charging. The flash would be easy to see in that situation if I'm looking that way. The Android blinking led is much more noticeable since it continues to blink. Like I said above, it's something Apple could have adapted long ago. The only way to get something similar on an iPhone is to jailbreak it.

Thank you, Sly.

As I said in my post, I searched the Accessibility settings in what I thought was a thorough way - how blind can one be! There it is. Don't know how I missed it.

And I do agree, it needs to be on the front which shouldn't be a big technical challenge.

I just tested and it appears it only flashes on incoming calls.

Well it can hardly be expected to flash with outgoing calls made by you:Mischievous::D (Joke)

I suppose what you want is for the LED to continue flashing if you've not answered - ie to inform you that you've missed that call. Don't think that works, but have you tested it by not answering?

Ian, yes you are correct. Wanting to just be able to look at phone sitting anywhere without picking it up knowing I missed one. No big deal, just a convenience. I guess droid made me lazy.

Like I stated above in #4, this is something that many users have asked for. Most ex Android users especially miss that feature. I personally think the flashing LED would be great to have but for some reason Apple has not implemented it for any version of iOS.

One thing you can do is select a ringtone that is loud and has a very distinct sound that you can hear even if you're in the shower. Lots of free ringtones are available throughout the web, pick one that will get your attention. ;)

That's correct. Once the phone stops ringing the flash will stop. The good thing is that doesn't drain your battery by continually flashing. The bad thing is that it leaves no way for you to know you have missed a call.

When I posted those directions I thought that would work. It wasn't until I read more of the thread that I realized it didn't quite do what you wanted.

chscag working around fighter jets for so many years has put a toll on my hearing even with hearing aids. No big deal that I have to hit or pick up the phone.

Slydude no problem that flash I guess does have a use, if your phone is silenced you would still see the flash.

LOL. When I was on active duty with the USAF we were stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. We lived on base in government housing. That housing area was about ½ mile off the end of the dual runways at Nellis AFB. Nothing like two jet fighters taking off early in the morning with afterburners on! Jet noise will definitely diminish your hearing. Hopefully, the VA pays for those expensive hearing aids you need.

At least they've finally stopped their glib excuse they used to use so often that some feature wasn't implemented was because Steve Jobs didn't like some so and so feature!! That got lame ages ago.

As a hearing aid using senior, even though I don't have or use an iPhone, I'm led to believe that a lot of the later hearing aid models (at least some of the Resound models) have various connections available that allows iPhone features to register with matched hearing aids. ie Rings etc., just in case that could help your situation.

PS:
Maybe these could help:

chscag, thankfully the VA is taking care of me after spending 4 yrs in the Navy and 17+ working in the Air Guard (Air Force) and retiring with 2 Honorable discharges.

Patrick, thank you my Canadian friend. Just downloaded HA app on phone and paired them to phone, very cool. On a side note originally from Buffalo, NY and have spent much time in Ontario in town of Simcoe (by Port Dover) with wives relatives and she still has Mom up there and they also live in Port Alberny (pardon spelling) before moving back to Ontario. She still has relatives I believe on Vancouver Island, she has been there and say's it is the most beautiful place she has ever been and wants to take me there someday.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but when I have a missed call a red number appears on the phone icon. Since that sits on the dock, it's pretty obvious. And it doesn't go away until I look at the history to see the missed call. It doesn't flash, and it's not visible if the screen is dark, but it's right there on the home screen.
