    Help with Iphone cameras...
Have a school project to make a "camera" in a basic cardboard box, but we were given an iphone 5 and told to remove everything but the bare minimums. I know of course the cameras and the battery with appropriate ables and I assume the logic board, but what else would be needed?? We just need it to record video and probably on a loop record. We are going to use both the front and rear facing cameras.

Trying to just bare bones an iPhone 5s with just the dual cameras and the charger. Wondering if I just used the logic board, power cord, storage and cameras should work, correct?? Again just bare bones/skeleton....

It's for a tech class and they want us to use mainly just the phone and it's internal parts. That should work, correct??? Before I go breaking into it...

    Hopefully, this makes sense.

Uhh what? What software is going to be controlling this camera? Are you just going to be running iOS and an app on iOS to do the work? You'll want to provide a lot more info on what your hardware/software needs are, what you are capable of doing, and how the iPhone (besides being an electronic device) serves in this equation.

I don't know what Grade this project is in but I would have thought the teacher would at least have given some decent directions as to what is involved, but it must be some school that they can supply a iPhone 5s for a student to dismantle.

But maybe I'm just out of touch of what schools are doing these days and maybe why there're always out of money.

But I'm also a bit confused of what this "bare-bones" camera will consist of:

Not too much left out that I can see when those other parts get added back.

I was gonna use the Apple software for the camera, or copy snapchat's software(thought I found a place online that would supply a backdated copy.)

We are trying to make a nanny camera, with 2 facing cameras, but they want us to dismantle the phone down to just the bare minimum needed to run both cameras and record on a loop recording, if that makes sense. Personally gonna use iOS, unless you reccommend different software, but hardware wise, what is the minimum needed?? (he won't let us just use the phone on silent, and theen pull it out. We have to dismantle, and then "wire" it ourselves. The inside of the nanny "box" area is 5"" wide and 4" tall. I hope this helps.... Sorry for the late response...

Lastly, GO PATRIOTS and beat the packers!!!

Patrick, I hope my other reply further explains, but they want a camera facing front and the other in the back and storage for the loop recording and a logic board or a motherboard. I have an IPhone 5s that I used to use that I'm allowed to "frankenstein" to make this nanny camera. Only restrictions are not using more than 2 other items, not included with the phone, so I really hoped I could use just the phone to make this work, but has to be components from, and not the entire phone, if that clarifies anything!!

Good luck, but I'm afraid I cannot help you with your project. Maybe some other member can, but I would not hold my breath if I were you.

Do you know the principals of electrical and software engineering? Without answering that, our answers aren't going to be useful.

And just to add a bit to that, I don't know of any company that freely or otherwise, shares the details or specs of the products they make. Including circuits, proprietary chips etc.

That entirely depends, but let's not muddy the discussion with speculation since I actually do know how to do what the OP wants to do, but if it's part of their school project, I'm not going to just give the answer.

Congratulations Ashwin, and especially on the fact that you could actually understand the question.
