With iOS 12 comes the emergency call facility by pressing the on/off button five times quickly.

Reading about this I have only read that it dials the US emergency service, ie 911.

"Location data shared with 911 and first responders. iOS 12 has a new feature that will make it easier to locate iPhone users in an emergency. The feature automatically provides secure location data to first responders when you call 911."

911 (and 112) both divert to 999 if dialled in the UK.

Surely you didn't assume Apple was dumb enough to not account for WHERE the device was when used in an emergency? :)

You can't even imagine the amount of effort involved in internationalizing these devices. Have you ever noticed why the devices are always phased into countries over time?

Dialling 999 when in other countries doesn't divert to local emergency number though apparently, though I haven't tried it.
