screen goes black then back on

My wife have iPad 5 version13.1.3 128gb capacity, OK every time she talks with her friend using sign language on facebook for approx 1/2 hour then the screens started to get out of focus then goes black then back to normally , every 2 to 5 m in it does it again. I turned auto lock setting to never ( was 10 min ) in Bright & Display setting. Not sure if its right?
what do u think the possibilities be

As for your wife's iPad, how is the condition of the battery? Also, when your wife is signing with her friend, I think you mean FaceTime, not Facebook?

Something else to consider, is that sometime the connection may fade in and out on FaceTime which would cause the screen to get out of focus or turn black and then on again.

HI Charlie, We're doing good and our 10grand kids are keeping us busy. Battery is great so means facetime cannot hold IPO too long. How about reset Wi-Fi setting . Well let her try mine too see if it does the same.

Ron, I think you have done the right thing with the auto lock settings, putting it on "never" can't hurt, so long as you remember to shut down the screen manually after use. Trying a different device is a good method of elimination and if there is still an issue it could well be network connectivity. Is the device using WiFi or Cellular network?

Could it be overheating? Using it for a WiFi FaceTime video chat for that long might be causing the graphics and CPU chips to be getting pretty warm.

Heres the update, My wife was talking to same friend today, after 5 min her friend said she is having problem when her iPad gets out of focus so they hang up and my wife was using mine and said does the same thing. OK her friend said she doesnt have that problem with others only talking with my wife.

We have great internet connection, 470 mbps, iPad works much better when she moved closer to wifi . Funny thing is she's been using the same distance for yrs and didn't bother til now?

Ron, it could be anything. WiFi frequencies are subject to interference from all sorts of devices, and with the proliferation of wireless stuff, the opportunities for interference have skyrocketed. Could be a new TV with a remote, or a wireless telephone (not cell), or a home automation device (smart bulb, smart socket, etc) or even a smart refrigerator. Moving just a few inches can make all the difference. I have a "dead" spot on my desk where the WiFi signal drops to almost zero, despite being less than 15 feet from the router. I think it's a place where the interference multiplies to create the spot. Fortunately, I can just pile papers there and safely ignore the phenomenon!
