iPad does not prompt for Apple ID but displays old ID and prompts only for PW when accessing iCloud, App or iTunes Stores.

I recently changed email and my MacBook Pro and iPOD are working fine. But my iPAD displays my old email address and only prompts for PW when trying to download an app from the App Store. In Settings-- old email displays for iCloud, App and iTunes.

I did not change the PW when I changed the email Apple ID. But the password does not work with the old Apple ID. While poking around, maybe Manage my account, I saw the iPOD listed as a device and that I can have two devices. Only saw how I could remove a device but not how to add one. Could this be the problem?

iPAD is Model: MD364LLA
iOS 9.3.5 (Software update says it is up to date)

Thank you for any help.

Is there no option to "sign in with a different Apple ID" or something like that?

Or can you not go to iCloud or iTunes/App Store in your settings and sign out there and sign in with your new Apple ID?

I hope I've got my facts correct from what you said above.

The "bottom line" is that you changed your Apple ID email address, but left your Password (PW) the same as before?

In that case, on your iPad > Settings > Apple ID (the exact site for this has changed a lot since iOS 9 and we are now at iOS 12; but scroll down the settings menu till you get to your ID - or in the search bar at the very top of Settings, enter "Apple ID" and it will direct you to the appropriate setting) > Now Sign Out.

Then Sign In again using the NEW email address and the preserved PW. That should connect/sync your iPad with the rest of your Apple devices - I'm assuming that all the other devices work fine since the change? You imply that they do.

That should be you sorted.

Please post back.

Confusion seems to occur when someone who has used their email address as their Apple ID, and then later on gets a new email address. What they forget is that their Apple ID will remain the same unless they change it to reflect the new email address.

Here's how to change your Apple ID email address:

Go to appleid.apple.com, click Manage Your Apple ID, and sign in with your Apple ID.

Click edit to the right of your email address under the section called Apple ID and Primary Email Address.

Enter your new Apple ID email address.

Click Save.

Always document and keep your old Apple ID and password when you obtain a new Apple ID and password.

Ian,

Thank you but it doesn't work. There is no "Apple ID" that displays under settings on my iPAD (iOS 9.3.5). Also did not come up when I entered Apple ID in the search box. Options that appeared as I typed all disappeared when I entered the "I". My IPOD (iOS 12.1) does display Apple ID and I see all three of my devices. The iPAD displays as a trusted device. I went into Manage my account" on my Mac. I was prompted for a verification code. I heard the iPAD make a noise and it was asking to OK a device and I clicked allow on the iPAD. The verification code that displayed on the iPAD I typed in on the Mac and was able to see all three devices displayed but the only thing I could do was remove one.

Context as to why I care. The scanner on my printer is no longer being supported to work with Mojave OS. Discovered there are apps to provide scanning ability without purchasing a new printer. Was able to download to iPOD but not iPAD. I can anchor the iPAD to myself and get better stability when taking an image. But every time I try to download it appears to be working fine but get a message that there is problem with ID or PW. The iPAD (iOS 9.3.5) shows my old email address and only prompts for the PW. I'm tempted to go int my account and change the ID to my old email and see what happens but I hate to mess up what is working just fine.

Well, I confess to being confused.

I rather passed over your comments about your iPOD in your first post, but now that you say say it runs iOS 12.1.......... it can't be an iPOD. You have to be talking about an iPhone or an iPad. iPOD was a 160GB device for storing and playing music from iTunes. There was, years ago, an iPod Touch I seem to recall but not associated with iOS.

Our Admin chscag gave much more precise instructions than I and that is the way to go; but my method would work too. However, you keep saying that your iPad (iOS 9.3.5) doesn't have an Apple ID. All iPads have an Apple ID, but as yours, being older and having an older iOS will be in Settings - perhaps, if I can recall that far back, perhaps under Mail, iTunes, Account - something like that.

So, would you mind awfully, telling us exactly all the Apple Devices you have?

It may just be me and tiredness, but I don't have a grasp on what devices you actually have.

@Ian, the iPod Touch has always used iOS. They’re still available, in the Apple Refurbished store.

@nincompoop, what is the app, you are attempting to install on your older iPad 2?

Thank you to all who who have taken time to ponder and offer assistance. My moniker, nincompoop, is very apt. Finally figured out these devices are all linked together so I logged out of App Store on another device. Then when I tried to log back in from my iPAD I got a prompt for Apple ID and was able to enter the new email and all is well. Downloaded the scanner app to the iPAD and it was just as easy as when I did it on the iPOD. Thank you all and happy holidays.

Thanks, Bob. The OP always talked about iPod and I couldn't understand that. Of course iPod Touch is a different matter and I'm indebted to you for reminding me that it is iOS and reminding others too.

First I want thank all of you. I ever expected such quick replies. Apple Support Communities has still not responded. Now I'd like to respond to questions. I have three devices: MacBook Pro OS Mojave 10.14.2; iPOD Touch iOS 12.1; iPAD iOS 9.3.5. The iPAD is the only device I did not buy directly from Apple and it says it is up to date so I am assuming it is an old version that is not supported by the newer iOSs. All three devices show my new email address. But the iPAD showed the old one as my identifier.

Based upon one suggestion to log out and log back in and the fact that the response for a verification code on my Mac appeared more quickly on my iPAD laying beside me, made me think they are were all intertwined in some way. I was able to log out of what I recall to have been the App Store on my Mac. I think it was after I did that that I got a prompt for Apple ID on my iPAD when I tried to access the App Store. Makes sense to me now why I got no login ID prompt if I was already logged in. Perhaps you all understand what was going on.

I don't understand iCloud at all. Seems I'm logged in and seems it is recognizing the new email. When I tried to log out of it I got scared because it wanted to remove some things from my computer. I'm on winter vacation. When I get home I'll try to schedule a session at Apple Store on iCloud functionality.

Thank you to everyone. No single answer but the various suggestions led to a solution and for that I am VERY grateful. You all have a wonderful holiday. You made mine far less stressful.

If you at one time opted to store documents and photos in iCloud by selecting that from System Preferences -> iCloud -> iCloud Drive -> Desktop and Documents Folders, then, if you log out of iCloud, that will in turn remove the documents and photos (if you opted to store them there also). That action will result in your documents and photos being lost unless you made a backup before.

I do not recommend storing Documents and Photos in iCloud unless you're very tight on drive space. And then only if you have a good backup of everything.

Thank you for the warnings. I do back up weekly and more often if I feel a need to. Also I have loads of drive space.
Available: 411.09 GB (411,085,656,064 bytes)
Capacity: 499.9 GB (499,898,105,856 bytes)

I don't know how a few documents got stored in iCloud. I have many questions but won't take up the time you good folks as it is not something I want to bother with now. I'm a learn and know as need dictates. Thanks again. :)
