Good day to all.
Backing up my iPhone to laptop (Mac) using the finder method.Does it backup everything that's on the phone or can you choose what to backup?.
Regarding backing up photos that are on the phone are already on iCloud so what does finder do does it back up photos to the MacBook.Thinking about space on my hard drive.
*** you can understand my question
Many Thanks
David.

Hi David

I presume you are running macOS Catalina as you don't mention iTunes, but the Finder?

Yes, you can choose what you want to backup. I would strongly advise that you select the "Encrypt" option and tick that box. That, as the name implies, encrypts your data and permits the backup (BU) to include Passwords, health data etc.

Then you can choose from the available options to back up "Music", "Photos"; "Films/Videos" and so on. Just go through the list and tick off what you want to BU. Leave blank anything you don't want to BU.

Your iCloud BU, again encrypted, backs up your Photo Library, accounts, documents, Home configuration and Settings. No need to BU photos to Mac in that case. I presume you use Time Machine and/or a cloned BU for your Mac anyway?

Does this answer your questions? Have I left anything out?

Hi David

This is where it goes by default - (but you can choose anywhere you like in iMazing > Preferences. Even to an External Hard Drive (EHD))

To get to the backup, follow these steps:

1. In Finder, look at the top menu bar and you will see "Go".
2. Hold down the Option key and whilst holding it down, Click on "Go"
3. Immediately under Home, you will see Library
4. Click on Library
5. Within Library, to your right, click on Application Support
6. From Application Support, scroll down and click on iMazing and from there, Backups

If for any reason, that does not take you to the desired place. Post back, because, with the iPhone connected, you can go into iMazing Preferences > Devices and that will show you the path to where the backups go. That's how I found mine.

Yes, that is the location Finder (or iTunes) saves device backups into.

I'm truly sorry, David. I got completely distracted by another post and confused your iTunes BU with iMazing. I was posting to both. A big bad on my part and humble pie duly eaten.

But if you ever get iMazing....... that's the way:Oops::blushing

Many thanks
David.
Each folder is a different device. Do you have (or had) multiple iDevices?

Just iPhone and iPad. I only backed up the iPhone Would be okay to delete the two existing ones and re do a iPhone backup again with a fresh. start.
Many thanks for your reply. Very much appreciated Notice the mistake on one of the images I failed to remove it.

As long as you don't need anything in those previous backups, they should be ok to delete.
