July 22, 2019 Apple shipped an update that applies to devices not able to use the current operating system release. On Monday, updates for iOS 9.3.6 and 10.3.4 were made available to download to a small number of devices.

The iOS 9.3.6 update is meant for the iPad 2, iPad mini, iPad 3, and iPhone 4s.

I'm just getting around to installing this iOS 9.3.6 update released onto my iPad 3, or should I say trying to, and I'm just wondering if any others had any troubles or delay in doing so.

I tried earlier during the day after leaving the iPad downloading and it's very light gray spinning wheel spinning away for over an hour and then force quit it and then restarted it.

I clicked the Install Now button and the light gray Spinning Wheel has being spinning away heading on 3 hours now.

I'm just wondering if there are others out there who ran into the same sort of time delay or if it is actually normal for this update release.

I don't recall any other previous iOS updates taking anywhere near this length of time. Neither can I find much information about any delay or problems with this release, but I would doubt very much if there's any huge rush on the downloading servers as there can't be a huge number of users of such old equipment and it's been 10 days since the update was released.

Thanks for any feedback or experiences.

I can't say I've had this issue, but I would try using iTunes to install it, instead of using the over the air installation?

Thanks for the suggestion Bob.

I guess such an iOS update may still be available considering all the changes they've made to iTunes excetera...

Well, using the iTunes route to complete the iOS 9.3.6 donload and install was literally a bit of a long involved nightmare and wasn't even possible until one had at least iTunes 12.8.1 installed and running.

I managed to get iTunes 12.8.2 downloaded and running on my Sierra volume.

Certainly not a happy Apple user here and definitely not impressed!!!

Good luck to any others doing the same update!!

At no point during the whole process was there any sign of any update feedback actually happening. And don't even think of Apple's expression " it just works" 'cuz it sure in the **** didn't. Not in this case.
