Why is logging into the MacForums iOS app so difficult?

So I changed my Mac Forums password on my MBP. Took a couple of tries to get the password successfully stored in iCloud but worked perfectly after about 10 min.
Then I went to the iOS app on my iPhone. It almost instantly told me I did not have editing rights. So I go to preferences and log out (according to prefs I'm still signed in).
Now I attempt to login/sign in. The instructions seem to indicate I need to enter both my user name and email address rather than one or the other.
I entered just my user name and using Enpass I copy and paste my new password after carefully checking it is the new password.
I am informed I have entered either my user name or password incorrectly AND I have used up all of my quota of attempts and have to wait 15 min before trying again.
Finally after about an hour I got signed in successfully.
Tonight I attempted to sign in on my iPad, same problem!!!
Worse than that I'm now locked out on my iPhone again after the "failed" sign in on the iPad and after only one attempt on each device. Come on!!!

Hello Rod. I do hear this is happening from time to time from folks logging in via a browser & via the app.

As an experiment...I just got on my iPhone...opened the Mac-Forums app...and logged myself out. Then quit the app...relaunched it...entered my Mac-Forums login info (username & password)...and got in the first time (no troubles).:)

Okay, back on my computer now. After repeated attempts using saved password from iCloud and Enpass and my User Name (Rod Sprague). hard to get that wrong in desperation I decided I would just reset my password again. On attempting to do this on the iPad I get a message saying that my user account doesn't exist. Doesn't matter if I use my user name, email addesss or combination user name/email address.
Help!

PS obviously its working on Safari on the MBP with new Password and existing account or I wouldn't be able to reply at all.

Now if I can just get past the invalid token warning I'll send you some pics.

I'm having to log in every time since the last required password change; it won't remember me. Using Firefox.

Delete the app then reinstall?

Just like Nick stated... no problem here. I don't use Firefox but Chrome and Safari both remember my log in user name and password. The only reason I can think of why Sue has to log in each time is that Firefox is removing the cookie. I'm not sure that Firefox stores passwords in the keychain but that could also be a reason she's having difficulty.

Bob may have a point as regards the mobile versions of Mac Forums. Delete the app and then reinstall.

There are problems, no doubt about that. The difficulty for Nick et al is that they are sporadic and intermittent and across different browsers and both Macs and iOS devices.

Some have them big time, others have not encountered them at all.

I don’t envy those trying to find a solution.

You would have to create a new password, and go from there, as that is where the issue comes into play.

Well here it is, the next day. I attempted to login numerous times last night with different browsers on different devices and eventually tried to change my password using the "forgot my password" option. I received the temporary password via email, I copied the password to the clipboard and attempted to login only to receive the same message and this is my real complaint, I got the "Your User Name or Password is incorrect and you have used up your quota of unsuccessful login attempts."
What quota? I got this repeatedly after the first unsuccessful attempt. Was I supposed to wait 15min after I received the emailed password? Perhaps thats where i went wrong. If so this is a glitch. If you have forgotten a login password and you enter the forgot password once and get locked out then press the Forgot Password button and receive a new one you should be able to use it straight away, if not then the email should inform you of this.

I'm all for security but this is ridiculous. What is a quota of one about? Then i have to wait 15 min before trying again. I could understand three attempts but one?
This morning on Chrome I managed to log in first try with the emailed password so now I'm going to try creating a new password from my settings page, back to square one.

I'm beginning to wonder if some of the OP's that never reply to our answers have gotten stuck in the same loop and gave up. I did last night.

I managed to login with the temporary password this morning and went to post a reply (the above) only when I clicked on the Post Quick Reply button I received a token expired warning. Looking at the top of the page I realised I was logged out. Tried to login with the temporary password only to get the "Your User Name or Password is incorrect and you have used up your quota of unsuccessful login attempts" again.
I was beginning to think I was in an endless loop and you have no idea how frustrating 15min is in that circumstance. So I used the link to change my password from the email and using the temporary password was able to change my password. I then tried to login to the Mac Forums page with the new password only to get the "Your User Name or Password is incorrect and you have used up your quota of unsuccessful login attempts" again.
So I waited the 15 minutes and tried again with my new password, this time it worked.
This sudden death, one miss and you're out system needs to be changed.

I just tried to login to the MF app on my iPhone, using the same password manager as I used to login successfully on Safari in MBP. I checked the passwords were the same just in case and got "Your User Name or Password is incorrect and you have used up your quota of unsuccessful login attempts."

I have deleted the app and reloaded it but am unwilling to try again for 15min.

While I was was waiting I tried to login on Firefox on MBP, typing in my user name and cutting and pasting the password I know is working on Safari and same deal!!!
Now I'm locked out on Firefox which is my default browser on my iPhone.

This is getting ridiculous. I have two browsers on three devices plus the app on two of them. Thats a total of eight required logins that need to be updated, they all used to work until I tried to change my password. Now I am limited to Safari on MBP only until this gets sorted.

I won't be changing my password on this site again any time soon I can tell you that.

The "one strike and your out" for 15min is the big issue, that really needs to be resolved. Anybody can make a mistake at least once.

You have my greatest sympathy, Rod. And I admire your perseverance. I’d have gone mad by then. Obviously, it needs sorting and no doubt the team are working on it.

Your point about others being put off and giving up is a valid one.

Okay, so I've successfully logged in with Firefox and Safari on the MBP and the iOS app on my iPhone. No doubt the results of thankless work behind the scenes by someone. So if you're reading this (you know who you are) a big THANKS for whatever you did.

A few months ago I was having an issue logging in as well. I must have used "forgot my password" 10 or more times. I realized when doing it, Safari was automatically filling in my login name in the "New Email" box, or it was filling in my email address in the "Login Name" box, I forget which. So, make sure you double check each box, before you submit the page.

Safari will fill in whatever information it currently has stored in your Keychain. Like Bob stated above, it sometimes will fill in old data you have there like your email address instead of your user name, or subsequently an older password.

Everyone who uses Safari or another browser that accesses Keychain data to store passwords and the like, should go through what's stored in the Keychain and remove anything that is no longer applicable. It's easy to do with Safari but may be a bit more involved with other browsers.

Now I can’t login using the MF app. Time to delete it, it’s not worth the aggravation.

This was this morning's offering from the MF app on my iPhone. On opening it told me I did not have permission to post. Suggested I login. Settings menu seemed to indicate I was already logged in as only sign out option was available. On closing that menu login window appears with user name and password already filled, clicking login produces the below response.

PS had the same issue on my iPad last night. As it stands the app is useless. It is a pain for me because I often find myself away from home in airports and waiting rooms of various sorts and the mobile app provides me with a constructive pastime that works on the small screen of an iPhone.
