My wife and I both have iPhones (IOS 12.1) on T-Mobile. Texts to either one of us alert and appear on BOTH phones. While this is not new with 12.1, it has been going on for at least a year. I assume that it's a setting that we made, but I don't know what. Any ideas?

I suspect that suomewhere aong the way both phone numbers are isted in the Messages preferences. Try the folowing and see if this fixes the problem:

1. From your phone open Settings and scroll down to Messages.
2. Tap Messs ages and you will be presented with a varuety of settings that can be channged. Look for a setting that says "Send and Receive" and tap there.
3. If your wife's phone number is there and checked uncheck it. Now close the preferences.

To stop your messages from appearing on her phone do the same thing but look for your phone number.

I believe the same thing can happen if her email address is listed as a receive point on your phone or if your email is on her phone as a receive point.

@tobindia:

What Slydude suggested should work. Do you and your wife have separate Apple IDs or are you using the same one? My wife and I share our texts and email on our iPhones but that's the way we want it to be. After being married 37 years, I doubt there isn't much she doesn't already know about me. I'm not as good looking as Slydude so she doesn't have to worry about competition. LOL.

ROTFL

After reading that statement I'm forced tp conclude that either:
1. You have me confused with someone else (Patrick or Nick perhaps) or
2. It's past time for your annual visit to the optometrist.
