This happens all the time. I can't get my iPad to always show in my iTunes sidebar. It displays when I back it up, but as soon as I unplug it, it disappears? My iPhone doesn't disappear from the sidebar and another person's iPad always shows there, just my iPad Pro doesn't?

What I've tried;

Hard Restart.
Reset Settings.
Erased and Restored iPad.

Nothing works.

I want to be able to stream movies in my Mac mini iTunes library and not have to store them on my iPad.

I'm wondering, if I have to erase it, and set it up as a new device?

Any opinions or advice?

Thanks.

Hi Bob

Trying to help; probably failing:Oops:

When I connect (via USB) any iDevice to iTunes, this is what I see:

S1.jpg

My device is shown on the left. When I click on the phone icon - red arrow - to open it, I get this:

S2.jpg

The Device disappears from the Left and all I see is shown above. Over on the right, of course, I can Backup and all the rest.

When I'm finished, I click on the disconnect symbol - red arrow and everything disappears.

So, in my case, I can only ever see the iDevice on the Left sidebar when I first connect it.

Maybe, I'm misunderstanding your difficulty, but I've never been able to get the iDevice to show in the sidebar except on first connection.

Thanks Ian,

Yes, that’s what happens on mine as well. The difference is, my iPhone always shows in the sidebar, maybe because I don’t use the eject button, but it’s there every day. It has disappeared a few times when I’ve gone out, but reconnects after I return home. Also, the other iPad always shows as connected. I only backup/sync that iPad to my mini every other week, but it’s always there.

So, what I ended up doing on Sunday was erased the iPad, and set it up as new. As of Sunday night, through now, my iPad still does not show in iTunes, unless it is plugged into my mini, using the USB cord. But, I can browse my Movies and stream to my iPad, which wasn’t working before either.

I don’t know what else to try, or why some devices show all the time, and some don’t?

Does your router have both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ? If it does, try switching bands to see if that makes a difference.

Yes, I named the bands differently, and both the mini and the iPad are on the 5GHz band. I’ll try it tomorrow afternoon, and post back afterwards. Thanks for that thought.
