This is for an iPhone SE, running the latest iOS 11.4.1, 64GB. I want the phone to:
- NEVER make sound
- Vibrate for calls or texts.
Currently, it will vibrate for calls but not texts (so the vibration motor works). After Googling a bunch, I don't get it, because I have:
Settings --> Sounds --> Vibrate on Ring = ON
Settings --> Sounds --> Vibrate on Silent = ON
Settings --> General --> Accessibility --> Vibration = ON
[note: a number of online posts refer to "Settings --> Sounds & Haptics" but that is NOT what my menu says]
Ringer volume a couple steps up from the bottom
Ringtone is twinkle; Text tone is Radar (was Bamboo, same problem)
Side left button can be orange or not, does not matter (if not orange, I'll hear the tone ringer + vibration)
?!?!?!?
This problem has gone on for a long time, maybe even since another phone...what the heck???? Heeeeeellllllppppp!!

Try a websearch such as this and there are lots of suggestions to try:
iPhone SE doesn't vibrate on text
https://www.google.com/search?clien...+SE+doesn't+vibrate+on+text&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

The top several hits give details for a fix such as these:
https://www.payetteforward.com/my-iphone-doesnt-vibrate-fix/

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8313270

And lots more using the search URL.

PS: Don't forget to reset/restart your iPhone as well. It may be having a brain fart experience.

Yes, there are (and I had read those exact threads too), but they inevitably involve:
- "Sounds and Haptics" which as I posted is NOT what my menu is called
- "Ring on Silent" etc which as I noted are set as recommended
- Restarting which I did
- Assumptions that the vibration is totally not working which is not the case

Since you have an iPhone SE, you will not have "Haptics". So don't worry about that.

How about "Change with Buttons"? Is that on or off?

Have you done the reset from > Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings?

How about Settings > General > Shut Down?

How about "Change with Buttons"?...Reset All Settings?
"Change" is OFF right now. I have shut down, but haven't Reset All yet...that's my last "nuclear option"

Sometimes a reset and restore is the only way to cure those stubborn things that won't respond to anything else. I've had to do that with my 7+ several times to resolve problems that had me stumped. Just make sure that you have a backup using iTunes and another with iCloud.

And sometimes before using the "nuclear option", (I like that phrase"!! ), just shutting down completely, wait a bit, then start it again, and maybe repeat the whole procedure a few times. Sometimes works.

I and others had similar experiences with iPhone with various iOS versions. Inevitably, the issue turned out to be the end user...

In my case, once the silence, physical switch accidentally and/or by grandkids little fingers had been turned off. I went through the settings a number of times until I realized that the switch is off.

The other time it had taken me much longer, about a week or more, to restore the sound and vibrate. Both the sound and vibrate would work when the phone is unlocked, but it would not when it was locked. This should have been a dead giveaway in retrospect that the issue is the "Settings/Do Not Disturb" settings:

It was driving me just as mad at the time and do understand what Head_Unit is going through.

I still do not understand why the do not disturb is not part of the sound interface. It seems logical to be included in there, instead of its own, especially when you also have a physical switch that does the same as far as sound and vibration is concerned. Yes, there are other settings under do not disturb, but it still could had been added under the sounds since they are related.

As for the restart, shutdown and nuclear options to fix the issue... You do know that these are pretty standard recommendations in the Windows world, right? So, at the end of the day, there really isn't that much difference between Apple and MS... :Mischievous:;D

And I dare say that's where the differences might start but also stop. :Smirk:

That's IF the user can ever figure out where Apple may have moved or even almost hidden the settings!!!

And each time a newer version of iOS goes public, all bets are off. Apple has been known to change where certain settings are located in iOS just as some settings and options change with different versions of macOS. Member "Cr00zng" does bring up a good point though. Just imagine.. most folks that access forums on a regular basis are fairly savvy and can generally sort things out. But how about a new user of an iPhone, Mac, or a Windows machine? ;)

Man, you sure hit the bullseye on that!!!

But how about a new user of an iPhone, Mac, or a Windows machine?
Or worse, the OLD or LONGTIME USERS that just won't let things sink in or resister or change the way they do or don't do things, even if and when they do read various forums.
