Flushing out iCloud

I was doing some system upgrades when some iCloud apps wouldn't connect. It took a lot of trouble and reinstalls to get things working but still some things break from time to time.

The more I look into iCloud the more complex it seems. There is the Apple cloud somewhere, there is iCloud control panels on each device and each device connects to the cloud to sync files or databases stored locally. But if something remains consistently broken, is there an almost bulletproof sequence to restore the integrity of the iCloud files (or particular app files)? Its not like you can open a single folder in the cloud and delete all the associated files.

Apple has hidden many of the files and links in the User Library so its a bit of jumbled mess.

I've seen sequences where you log out of iCloud on all devices and perhaps remove the hardware icon from iCloud web interface but I can't recall the entire sequence.

Any sequences or even iCloud architecture white papers that show how everything interconnects would be helpful. I'm looking for universal info, not app specific info.

Hi rustypixels and welcome.

Bit of a complex question with so many facets to it.

But you could start here: go to https://www.icloud.com and log in with your email address and password associated with your Apple ID.

There you will see all your Folders. You can enter them, alter contents if you must, but be careful. You can go into your account and so forth.

What Mac, Model and OS do you have. That would help us too.

Please post back. There's lots more we can tell you about iCloud and how it works. This is just the start.

While you're mulling over my previous post, I can take things a bit further for you.

I only now realised that your posted on the iOS forum site, so another thing you can do on your iDevice (phone or Pad) is go into Settings and at the very top is your name, under which will be Apple ID, iCloud etc. Tap on this.

Then Tap on iCloud and this will list all APPS USING ICLOUD. You can switch on or off those you want to sync via iCloud.

On a Mac, it's System Preferences > iCloud and here, also, you can tick the boxes of all those things you want to sync to/from the Mac via iCloud.
