Since my wife updated her ipad to 11.0.3 she cannot open most of her old Pages files - they appear as thumbnails but will not open; others seem to be lost completely. :'( After checking icloud I've discovered that, unfortunately, she has not backed up the bulk of them... (I know...I know!). :(

I've read all the stuff about 32bit apps no long being supported but, even following instructions given on this forum, I cannot establish if hers were 32 or 64 bit and therefore assume, as she blindly takes all the updates, all her apps have been updated. So, the big question: is there any way of recovering these files?

I have not heard of any issues with opening older Pages files under the new Pages. Have you tried a power off/power on cycle on the iPad? What iPad is it?

Hi Jake, Thanks for the interest. It's a ipad Air 4 (MD788v/B). She has tried re-booting but to no avail. Now I've been able to get my hands on it, it would appear the problems are related to the Pages app alone.

So I am still at a loss as to know where to go from here.

You can try removing Pages and reinstalling it again. There might be something wrong in the Pages app as it is installed.

The iOS version of Pages has been updated several times in the past 6 months and recently for iOS 11. Make sure she has the latest version. Reinstalling as Jake advised should get her the most recent version. Also have her try signing out of iCloud and then back in again. Of course she will need her Apple ID and password to do that.

Thanks for your continued interest and support. She's now away for a few days with the iPad so I'll get back to it on her return.

"most" people have Pages backed up by default even if they don't use iCloud Drive.. does she sync to a computer via iTunes? If she uses a computer and is logged into iCloud which you pretty well have to be than Pages, Contacts, Calendars, Notes and Reminders should all be ticked. A reinstall vis USB on her computer should put all her pages files back. Alternatively try logging into iCloud vis a browser and look in Pages there.

No, unfortunately, she's not synced to computer (my iPad) and I've checked iCloud from it but no luck. It would appear, we have to accept that a lesson's been learned.
