Seriously, the facial recognition data is stored in the secure enclave within the iPhone, not transmitted anywhere else, according to Apple. And that article assumes the incorrect technology for the Apple solution, so the resulting conclusions are invalid on the face of it. And if you read the article, it is filled with "might" and "may" and "could" statements all raising fear and doubt. It is a tin-foil hat festival!

Should be easy enough to identify the person. There can't be that many people willing to pay that price for an iPhone X

Shouldn't the facial recognition work similarly to fingerprint authentication on the iPhone?

In which case, after couple of unsuccessful unlocking the iPhone via fingerprint authentication, it'll switch to PIN authentication.

It still remains to be seen, but in my view, it would make sense to retain the existing defaults with bio-metric authentication.
