Am I the only one who finds this confusing?
The WiFi and Bluetooth buttons in iOS 11 Control Centre do not turn WiFi or Bluetooth off. They just disable the current connection.
You must go to Settings to actually turn the function off.
To make it even more confusing the Mobile Data switch in Control Centre DOES turn off Mobile Data.
So after finally giving me easy access to functions in Control Centre that I've always wanted I now find that for my purposes they don't work.
What DOES work however is the deep press on the Settings app because it takes you to the actual settings page for that function.
I wonder if this may account for some of the increased battery drain people are reporting. Eg. Thinking Bluetooth is off when it's actually searching for devices.

No Rod, you're not the only one. The fact that the new Control Center does not work the way it appears has been mentioned several times in another Mac Forum. BT is not the only thing that is affected, there are others. Personally I don't use the new Control Center as it's confusing to me because of the overlapping settings.

And by the way, is the post you were referring to in your PM to me?

Thanks chscag, this is the post but I couldn't find it in the New Posts page. In fact I still can't see it. Even though you have replied. I have a Safari Bookmark to Mac Forums on my iOS desktop an I just looked at Whats New but although there are more rent posts I can't see mine. Still the iPhone view is a bit limited.

OK, I understand now that you're trying to navigate and use the forums with your iPhone. I don't even try to use my iPhone since the Mac-Forums app no longer works. However, I can use Safari fairly easily on my 10.5" iPad Pro to do the forums. The screen is a bit cramped considering that I'm used to doing the forums on my 27" iMac. You need to buy an iPad. The 2017 9.7" iPad is inexpensive and works very well. The iPad Pro - both the 10.5" and 12.7" inch are a bit pricey especially when you add the Smart Keyboard and cover. Since I don't have a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the iPad Pro is my go to device when I'm away from home.

I would love to buy an iPad at the moment but they are more expensive here in Bali. Of course I have a MBP which makes it harder to justify even though this broken collar bone stops me from using it at the moment. I did put Dolphin browser on my wife's iPad mini just for my use but I still have to move my arm too much. Guess I'm stuck with the iPhone for now but this iPhone 7 has been a godsend, without I would have died of boredom weeks ago.

Get well soon Rod :)

The problem with an iPad Pro is you will automatically want the keyboard and pencil, which makes even more expensive than it is already :(

Yes it is a bit confusing! You can turn Bluetooth ON from the swipe up menu but you have to got to Settings to turn it fully off. The swipe up Bluetooth icon only disconnects any device currently connected to it but leaves it running in the background!
Uses battery of course!

For those who remain confused about this change, here's an up-to-date article, with pics, explaining everything: http://osxdaily.com/2017/10/04/how-...mail&utm_campaign=Feed:+osxdaily+(OS+X+Daily)

Yesterday, I received and read that OSXDaily article and wondered about the effect of activating Airplane Mode (AM) in the 'new' iOS 11.x 'Control Panel' - I've already turned off BT & Wi-Fi in the Panel and the services remained ON in Settings, as already discussed. BUT, then I turned on AM in the panel and both Wi-Fi & BT went off (see first pic); however, going to Settings showed that both services were still ON (see second pic) - assume this is a nice feature if one wants to disconnect from a network and/or a BT device, but still receive notifications, mail, etc. over Wi-Fi.

However, when on an airplane and asked to put devices in Airplane Mode, my thinking is that one needs to go into Settings and disabled the Wi-Fi & BT services there (P.S. iPad has iOS 11.0.2 installed) - comments? Dave :)

No you don't need to go to settings to disable BT & WiFi. I just tried it, hit the plane mode in the slide up menu and both WiFi and BT are turned OFF in the settings.

Hi C-C - please tell us if you have upgraded your iPad to iOS 11.0.x? Apple has changed the behavior of the control panel (CP) vs. previous versions. I just re-tested my self, and now in the CP activating Airplane Mode (AM) has no effect on the BT or Wi-Fi status (see combo first pic); also, when I go into Settings, AM is on but so are BT & Wi-Fi (see 2nd pic) - I did a hard RESET of the iPad Air 2 (iOS 11.0.2) and repeated the same steps w/ the same results. My feeling is that iOS 11.0.3 will soon appear? ;) Dave

Sorry RD, I was referring to my iPhone SE! My iPad is too old to up to OS11!

No problem - so if we both are running iOS 11.x, then discrepant results, I guess - just updated my wife's iPad Mini & iPhone 6 last night - will check to see if her devices are behaving differently from my iPad? For those interested, Apple's Support Article on BT & Wi-Fi in iOS 11 - need to look for their relationship to Airplane Mode? Dave :)

Leaving aside all of the variations of switched combinations why would apple create such a unintuitive system. It was the OSX Daily article which motivated me to start this thread but how many users will read that or the Apple support article RadDave has included above? I expect lots of questions from OP's about this and rightly so. If for example I want disconnect from a Bluetooth speaker I turn the speaker off. I don't turn off Bluetooth and if I did want to turn Bluetooth off completely I would assume that the control centre button did this but it doesn't. It seems Apple has left us to discover this by attrition.

Just one other quick observation; turning on AM in CP and then allowing you to turn WiFi and Bluetooth back on means you can use Bluetooth devices (like a pencil for iPad) and connect to in-flight WiFi if provided but not make or receive phone calls or SMS. This not a bad thing but it is definitely not intuitive.

I suspect that somewhere in their thinking is the fact that they've done away with the earphone socket and gone BT?

I'm sure you're right, Apple Pencil and Keyboard too for the iPad. But when and how were they going to tell us about it? I can image scenarios where people say, Thsts funny I thought I turned WiFi off but when I went to KFC it asked me if I wanted to login?

Rod, it's been that way for a while. I did exactly that on two recent flights with WiFi onboard. Used AM to turn off everything, then reselected WiFi on and connected. I didn't find it confusing at all. In fact, it worked exactly as I expected it to. And just to make sure, I just tested it with 11.0.2. AM turns everything off (I was streaming music and when I tapped the airplane icon on the control panel the music stopped). I then went into Settings and turned WiFi back on and the music resumed. I then went back to CP and tapped the airplane icon and cellular and BT came back on as well. And unlike RadDave, when I tapped the AM icon, the other three went dark, turned off. The cessation of music confirmed that state. So something is wrong on RD's setup, IMHO.
