Thanks, I’m liking the “driving now” bit. Very helpful.

Well done, I will have to wait a little longer to check it out myself. My failed tries at downloading estimated 80min to completion so I'm a bit envious but there are other advantages to living here which outweigh the inconvenience of a slow unreliable broadband service.

Good read, but I'll wait until I hear from Kirk that the poor resolution he discovered is fixed, or was an error. The differences are petty staggering.

You've got me interested now. I can't say I've noticed an issue (been running the iOS11 beta from the start so have taken quite a few photos using HEIC). But I'm going to go and do some testing now to see if I'm getting the same issues

Another interesting iOS11 quirk: Siri can translate from English TO several languages, but not the other way. So, you are in the middle of France, use Siri to translate "How do I get to the train station?" into French, but when the Frenchman responds in French, Siri cannot translate that to English. Not terribly useful, IMHO. But maybe it will get updated later on.

That’s because Apple wants the Frenchman to have an iPhone too, that may, translate the other way?

The beauty of cloud based technologies like Siri, it will only get better as time goes on..not long before we have the "Universal Translator" in our hands..:)

Well since I have no impulse control when it comes to upgrading.... I installed iOS 11 on my 7+. I did it at work so it took less than an hour - not actually sure exact time as I was working and letting it do it's thing. Anyway, WOW my 7+ is way faster. So far it is performing really well. I am going to be using it rather heavily over the next three days so we shall see how it performs.

I also updated my Watch Series 2 to OS 4. I have had no time to explore yet.

Simple solution, at least for now — just save your money and don't travel to foreign language speaking countries… and maybe avoid some localized language areas of one's own country. :Blushing:

May I ask a questions about iTunes for Windows? I recently installed iTunes 12.7 and, like many others, the book tab was gone. Does it mean that all my books are lost and how can I ever get this feature back? Will I need to install a separate iBook tab like the one used with Mac?

The only single issue I have had with IOS 11 was on my iPad Air (Air not Air 2). I was making folders and went crazy moving things all over different screens trying to get it the way I wanted it and had a lockup. After 10 seconds it restarted on it's own. I have not been able to duplicate it so it was probably something I was doing trying to learn the new OS! :D Grin

Otherwise it's been faultless on even the Air leave alone the 10.5 Pro.

I’ve recently upgraded my iPad Air and there are some features that don’t work on it. The split screen function and the like don’t work.

@adox66

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums.

As far as I know, the iPad Air will not support Split Screen, but will support Slide Over (and has since maybe iOS 9, certainly iOS 10).

This article, with video, not only shows you how to do all this, but lists the compatibility of Slide Over and Split Screen with the various iPad models: https://www.iphonelife.com/content/...sking-split-screen-slide-over-picture-picture

Your books are still there. What you will need to do is access them from your iPhone or iPad. Once you purchased a book you can always redownload it again from your purchased items at the book store.

Not sure what you mean by a separate iBook tab? On a Mac there is an application called "iBooks.app". You might want to read thru the information given here regarding iBooks on Windows computers.

Only accessible through iPhone and iPad? so no longer available on the computer? so I have to sync from iPhone to iPad going forward? For Mac, that is what I mean. It is also separate from iTunes but available independently, just wondering if there is a similar app with Windows.

Did you read thru the information I provided you at the link in red? That will show you how to transfer and read your books on a Win machine. And no, there is no iBooks app for Windows.

Living in Indonesia I have been dependant on Google Translate for a while and it enables fast switching between audio English to Indonesian and vice versa. I have only just updated to iOS 11 so I will have a play with Siri today but because GT also offers off line translation I think it will be hard to beat.

Out of curiosity... Isn't your statement also a sort of hidden praise for Bing? If I recall correctly, Siri uses Bing/Microsoft cloud technology...

Sorry but i couldn't find an answer anywhere, however updated my iPad air to ios11 and in the control screen it shows "music" and it will pop up when i first use my iPad. this is a total nuisance. Is there anyway to eliminate it? I've gone to control to find a way to get rid of it but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

No I'm not Raz0rEdge, but I doubt there would be any confusion on their part considering Microsoft has and is developing their own Cortana.

And BTW, Bing is Microsoft's search engine and not related to speech software such as Siri.

Can you try and explain a bit more? Maybe a screenshot to help?
