Hey guys. Just getting into iOS eco system. Would like to know if there is anyway to auto-off the device in iOS after/at specific time. It's just that I have a habit of consuming YouTube while in bed. As with the Android device where are many apps that does this, Is there anything of that sort in iOS directly/indirectly?

Welcome to Mac-Forums..

There is nothing built into iOS that will force you to turn the device off. That's only a matter of your self-control. When watching videos especially, the device is set specifically to not go off so that's the worst case scenario.

You'll have to investigate 3rd party apps that will put some time limits on you and prompt you to shut the phone off..

Here's a quick and dirty solution for you until you find a third party app. I originally learned this in relation to playing iTunes playlists but limited testing tells me it works with Youtube as well.

1. In the Utilities folder on the iPhone / iPad open the Clock app.
2. Go to the Timer section and create a countdown timer that is longer than you need. If, for example, you fall asleep after 30 minutes set it a bit above that.
3. Tap the "When Timer Ends" option to Stop Playing.
4. Start the timer then start the youtube video playing.

If the video finishes before time runs out you can select another video. If you select a video longer than the timer allows or is part of a playlist the video will stop playing.

I've talked about this in relation to iTunes on a previous Sunday chat. Think I'll add a video demonstrating this to this Sunday's show.

Cool! Even if there is a third party app iOS app limitations won't let the device to sleep by the app. BTW what Chat show are you talking about. Can you link it?

I do a weekly Mac-Forums video chat show usually Sunday Night 7:00 p.m. Central Time (Midnight GMT). It covers recent forum activity as well as Mac and IOS tips. The link changes each week. Here's a link to the most recent page of show-related forum thread. It has links to the most recent shows as well as links to the web pages / tips discussed.

Edit: BTW Although I've only tested that procedure with the YouTube site via Safari and iTunes I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work with other apps such as Audible.
