Lori:

Phone Rescue is not free. What you would download is a "free trial" that probably will just show you what can be recovered but until you buy a license ($49.99), it probably will not recover anything.

It's been our experience that none of the iPhone recovery programs are really free. Some have a free trial but that's about the extent of it.

Do you sync your contacts using iCloud between your Mac and iPhone? If you do, you may be able to recover them from your Mac with Time Machine (if you make backups).

Also, we moved your post here as it does not belong in the "Lounge". Thanks.

Thnx for replying!
I looked for there and saw that it is not free.
I thought mayb I could download it and do the recovery just once using the free download version.
Tho having second thoughts as there is probably a limit.

Even if you think you don't back up your lost data, it is worth a few minutes of your time to try. Connect your iPhone to the computer with which you sync it. iTunes should open and choose 'Restore backup'. All the data you previously backed up will now replace the data on your phone. Recovery methods can be alternatives to recover iphone contacts or other lost data.

@lori 5060 before you follow this advice and possibly erase something currently on the phone check to see when the last backup was made. Launch iTunes and select the iPhone as the device. Clicl "Summary" on the left side and look where it says "Latest BackUp" Check the dates for both "On this Computer" and iCloud for the most recent one.

If you rest0ore from a previous backup the phone will not have any information beyond whenever that backs was made.

When it comes to backing up it's often too late:( I used a free version of cleverfiles to recover data from my imac. It also works with Android, I checked it up.
Since that I copy all the important data I have. And looking for some program that would make backups automatically, would appreciate any advice.

That doesn't appear to help when it comes to recovering files from an iPhone. The only way that it might help is if the files are already present on the Mac.

The free version of Disk Drill (what member BeeHelp is referring to) does not recover data from an iPhone or iPad and I don't believe it works with an Android either. As Slydude stated, it can recover (limited) deleted data from a Mac or Windows PC.

I didn't say for sure that it would work with android. I just saw that on the list on their website. "Android lost data is recoverable. Disk Drill can access your rooted Android device's storage and recover deleted data directly from the internal memory or Android's SD card as if you are working with a regular hard drive" - this statement is from their website

Go to the Member discounts section, there is a giveaway section. It should be a test held be the admin to see if you will like such activity or not. It's on data recovery.

DO NOT use restore in the iTunes menu if you have not done a backup lately. What has been said is correct but if you don't backup regularly the backups you have may be way out of date. When you connect your iPhone and view it in iTunes you use the "Restore" button to put back the contents as they were at the time listed after an issue or problem with the phone and when you press the button it will show you a list of dated backups to choose from.
If your most recent backup is from 6 months or a year ago you may want to reconsider what that will mean before you go ahead.
This system works really well if you do regular (weekly) backups but not so good if you don't. For example you cannot restore an operating sytem earlier than the one you have now.

Sorry Sly somehow I added your reply as a quotation. Basically said the same stuff.

I'm not sure if it works like it used to and because I use iTunes to backup to the cloud the option does not appear but I remember that in the past you could go to the Info menu and choose to replace the Contacts and Calendar info with the info on the computer as a one off. Assuming our OP syncs to her computer that might be an easy way to restore contacts. Does that still work?

Lori, I understand all this stuff may not be helpful to you given your question was about a program to recover your contacts but the easiest way is to restore them from a backup if you have one.
Do you backup and or sync your iPhone to your computer or iCloud regularly? If so it's a pretty easy process to restore your contacts.
