27" Retina iMac Late 2014, 4GHz I7, 4GB graphics, 16GB Ram, iPhone 5S, 17" Dell Laptop
Has anyone tried CarPlay on any vehicle? Will it work on older cars that are iPhone friendly?

CarPlay is not something you can add to a vehicle through an iPhone. If the vehicle didn't come with the vehicle, you can only add it by purchasing an aftermarket car infotainment system that has it. If your vehicle is already able to connect to iPhones, the aftermarket solution should be a slightly easier install. I'm not familiar with the prices on such units but Alpine and Pioneer both make units for some cars.
