I got quickoffice but I'm not really liking it. I'm looking at pages & Keynote now. I'm just wondering. If I work on a powerpoint/word file at my PC and then email it to an ipad, can I open it in keynote/pages? And then can I email that keynote/pages file back to my PC and open it in word/powerpoint again? Are there any formatting issues? I'm pretty sure pages is not going to have a hard time since its mostly text, but keynote might have its own animations and such. Does anybody who has these want to fill me in? Thanks in advance :)

The problem with both Keynote and Pages is that they do not provide complete compatibility with their Office equivalents. And if you switch back and forth they way you're suggesting, what compatibility there is will get worse.

Hang on for awhile longer. We have heard that Microsoft is working on a version of Word and PP for the iPad. When it will be released is uncertain though.

"complete" compatibility

What do you mean by that? I kind of get how keynote and powerpoint would have some issues. But pages and word? The text should get moved no problem, right? The problem would be something like the formatting, correct? Do you have any specific problems with the conversion you can point out?

>.< What about keynote. I know it has transitions and stuff that powerpoint doesn't. Yet I see classmates do powerpoints on macs and then present them on PC's. So what happens with those keynote-specific animations? Does it export into some kind of view-only file?

Formatting is usually the issue especially when using graphics, borders, effects, etc. Pages and Word are word processors in addition to handling text. You'll also find that using templates to create documents will cause problems when moving back and forth.

I don't use Keynote so I can't comment on transitions, however, PP on the Mac is pretty much 99% compatible with the Windows version which is why you can move between a Mac and PC without difficulty.

So do you think it would be better to just copy the text w/o formatting and email to the computer, where I would format it and everything?

You could certainly do it that way although it's going to create extra work for you. Doesn't Pages save in RTF format? That would be better than using plain text as it preserves formatting. Word on the Mac can open and work with RTF files just as easily.

This is annoying me..... I have quickoffice because its got dropbox. I'm fine emailing my work to and from my computer and ipad, thats not a problem. But this darn formatting... It's really ruining the chance at a good workflow. Are there any other good apps for powerpoint building that works with the PC version?
