Test from my iMac and MacBook Pro show as Not Delivered....even though they are. I checked on my iPhone. Replies do not show except on my phone. I know AOL is a dinosaur, but the wife likes it so.... I've heard reference to Yahoo and AOL being one now, but I don't know anything about that. Any suggestions or work arounds?

Thanks

Verizon bought AOL in 2015. In 2017, they then bought Yahoo and subsequently merged AOL and Yahoo together into a new company named Oath. They are losing money on this big time. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut it all down in the next couple years.

I don’t quite understand how you are using AOL Instant Messenger in any capacity. Is it Messenger, or their mail service? AIM was shut down after Verizon bought AOL and the app isn’t even on the App Store. I did read where another company resurrected it, but there is no iPhone version. Quite frankly, it’s time to just move on and use something else.

OK...lets say I'm not using aol for texting...makes sense, but why are all of my texts to anyone not using an Apple product not being shown as sent on my iMac & MacBook Pro? I know they are being received because when I check on my phone it show as delivered..just the opposite on both Macs. Their reply show up on my phone...not the Macs. It's probably just a setting, but it affected both Macs at the same time.

I get the same thing here. We have several friends who own Android phones and texts between us (we have iPhones) and them are transmitted as SMS and never show up on my iMac as delivered or read. But yet, the texts are received. No problem ever with iMessages between us and others who own iPhones.

I've checked iCloud settings and they're okay. I believe it's just with some Android phones because I can remember sending a text to someone who has an Android and it does show up on my iMac.

I don’t believe SMS allows for notifications that a message was read. iMessages do, but not SMS. But to get SMS messages to sync with a Mac, there are a couple settings that have to be set. On your iPhone, in Settings, then Messages, there’s an option for Text Message Forwarding. You can select any Apple device on which you are signed into iCloud.

See my response to chscag. But that doesn’t apply to AOL Instant Messenger. We’d need to know more about what exact software you are using. Preferably with links to it so we can take a look at the settings.

On my Mac with macOS Catalina, in Messages > Preferences, the iMessage section, I have;

Apple ID - signed in. Also: "This account" is enabled & "Messages in iCloud" is enabled. There is a "Sync Now" button, that syncs all my missing messages.

In the "You can be reached at" section I have my iPhone number and my iCloud account email.

At the bottom, there is the two options;

One for "Read Receipts", the other is for "Start new conversations from" and that has my iPhone phone number selected.

Also, if you look in System Preferences > Internet Accounts, AOL is still an option there.

AOL is still alive and well (at least for now). As "Life" indicated it was taken over by Verizon some time back. After Verizon sold their FIOS holdings here in Texas, email that was once available at Verizon.com were shifted over to AOL but without a change of address. Yeah I know, confusing, but it works. But like I said, as least for now.

This whole matter is confusing. The OP implies he's texting with AOL (i.e. AIM), but that part of the service was shut down.
AOL Instant Messenger is shutting down after 20 years – TechCrunch

We really need some clarity here since he's saying "texting" but it may really be emailing. In the meanwhile, I'm doing a little digging and interestingly, you could text someone from the AOL Instant Messenger.
iPhone & AOL Instant Messenger - Apple Community

That discussion goes way back to 2007, but the person posting there said he set up AIM to send IMs to his cell number as an SMS. Still, since the Instant Messenger service was shut down 2 years ago, this literally shouldn't be working either.

For a workaround to use AIM, there is a 3rd party hosting a server that restores functionality. It looks like you can use any official AIM client but have to change the server details and register an account with them. You also cannot import your existing buddy lists since they are a 3rd party.

Well...I figured out what the problem was...at least I think so, since it seems to be working now. Somehow, my name and number ended up on the Blocked list. Removed them and everything seems to be working fine...go figure..lol
