Hello
Well I bought a JBL go 2 for a project I"m working on. I like the "bluetooth" feature and it got
some good reviews. It arrived today and I paired it with my Iphone 5
But I've spent 2 hours trying to pair it with my 2011 MacBook Pro with Mojave on it.
The Macbook pro can see the speaker, will connect to it for about 20 seconds the go to
"not connected"...
I've searched the net and found lots of similar situations as mine but not exactly the same
So does anyone have an answer to why this bluetooth is disconnecting, and how to
pair it to work
Best
Mojave 10.14
and yes my Iphone 5 is paired with the JBL go 2 speaker

As I understand it the JBL Go 2 is currently paired with the iPhone 5 and you are also trying to simultaneously pair it with your MacBook Pro? Try unpairing the speaker from your phone and pair it with the the MacBook Pro. I think I've used a similar speaker recently that could only be paired with one device at a time.

There are some speakers/headsets that can be paired with more than one device at a time but that may not be true for this speaker.

Since your MacBook Pro 2011 model does not qualify to run Mojave, you must have used a hack to install it. Either that, or your MacBook Pro is a later model than 2011. Anyway, that could be the reason you're having BT problems.

skydude.. thanks for the reply. I meant to say that the JBL go 2 is paired with my Iphone 5, but I know that they
both can not be connected at the same time, so I have turned bluetooth off on the Iphone.
chscag. right when Mojave came out, there was a patch available from a (third) party so it could be installed on
these older models. Since my installation of 10.14 on this Macbook I have had not issues with any wifi
or other functions. although the system seems a tad slow, but the model is now 8 years old. I must say that
there are no problems with this Mac... My friend has gone through 3 Macbooks since I bought mine, she has bad luck
with computers...
One note on the bluetooth pairing. on the Iphone even though bluetooth is off, the JBL go 2 still shows in the
bluetooth devices. On this Mac when the speaker was turned off, the device disapeared from the bluetooth device
section of the Mac.
One think about the JBL go 2... it has terrible documentaion. it came with two sets of "what it is" in many languages
but I have yet to find instruction on how to operate the speaker.. Yes I know its simple, but the only indicator is a
flashing light on the speaker front. everyone says it's blue, my is (white) it does have 2 sets of sounds whe turning on
or off or sounds when it is paired. They should have used more (LEDS) for indicators.
I would think that even though my Mac was not designed for Mojave, that if bluetooth found the speaker it would
hold it. It does see it, and like I said the go 2 icon stays in the device list, until I turn off the speaker...
Anyway, thanks for your inputs.

Agree, minimalist in the extreme! I resorted to YouTube when I got mine. I take it you are switching on the speaker before trying to pair/connect?

On my Flip 4, the indicator light is blue when you first turn on then changes to white. There's a sound button but you can also control the sound from whichever music app you're using on your device.

When I use the Bluetooth drop down menu on my MBP it's only showing JBL Flip 4 but if I go to Bluetooth Preferences, it lists my iPhone as well.
On my phone, every paired device is listed...so guessing there must be a difference between iOS and OSX rather than that MBP isn't holding it.

Can you "forget this device" on the iPhone to test?

It may be limited to only "work" with one device at a time, even if that device is turned off?

Bluetooth devices support the concept of pairing and connection. Technically, a device can be paired with many other devices but can (and should) likely be only connected to to one. My Sennheiser BT headphones is paired with my MBP and iPod Nano. When I turn the headphones on, it's a crap shoot which one it connects to, but if it connects to one I don't intend to use, I just disconnect and manually connect to the device I care about and it stays connected from then on until I power off the headphones.

Being paired to multiple devices shouldn't be causing disconnections from the Mac. When connected to the iPhone, does the JBL disconnect automatically? On the Mac, once it's disconnected, does it try to reconnect or does it just stay disconnected?

Thanks for replying..
A few things I have found out. 1 is that you can connect to many devices, but technically you can only
be connected to one device at a time. except there is a work around for speakers which you have to dig into the midi
folders..
My Iphone connects and works great with the JBL go 2 I sat outside this morning listening to music while I read.
I have also learned that Bluetooth freqrency is closer to the the 2.4ghz and it is recomended to use the 5g instead..
thinking back I remember another problem that the Macbook Pro had regarding connnecting to devices, but
I can not remember what it was...
I sent an email to JBL this morning.
the go 2 uses Bluetooth 4.1 I do not know if that is software or hardware...
I gues that this laptop being a 2011 model year it is "not compatible" with the newer standard... that is a guess
I hope the JBL will tell me..
Said to know that JBL and Kardon Harmon are no longer American companies..
I have searched apple and they have no updated driver for Bluetooth, that I have found.
Does not even seem like my Iphone 5 is syncing with bluetooth...
I must be doing something wrong...

Both JBL and Harmon Kardon are now developed and made in Asian countries. That happened long ago.

As for BT drivers, the only way you can get an updated driver is by updating your hardware. Your 2011 MBP would not be able to use an updated driver even if there was one to download since your BT hardware would not support it. However, unless the JBL Go 2 is BT 4.1 specific, it should work with your older BT hardware. Let us know what JBL tells you if they answer your email.

I know that both are owned by Asian comapies... I said TooBad...
I tried a "chat" with JBL this morning, but to get any help I needed to give them my Bank Account number.. just kidding
they wanted more info about me then really needed... I'm dead tired of the world going that way... but thats my thing.
I'm still searching.... I do now have the (go 2) icon locked into the BT device menu...
the speaker works fine with my Iphone 5..
there have been updates to the BT driver... they are on the apple site, but none are really current...
I thought at least they might help ...
I hope to find the answer to this, someday...

Have you rebooted the mini since this started? If not, give it a try.

Pointless dissing Asian companies. You do know that lots of Aple products are assembled in China etc?

I have rebooted the JbL go 2 a few times now
I found that you can reset the Macbook pro bluetooth also (hold down shift and contro, then click the bluetooth icon)
a drop down menu appears , click on (debug) click on reset..
This did nothing for me, and it never let me know it reset, but I went ahead and rebooted the Macbook
still no go...
very frustrating. I did find the same problem listed on the apple support site... with no Fix
I am going to buy a usb doggle and see if I can get it to work... I've seen many explaination on how to do this
but they were all of about 5 or 6 years old..
These are broadcom chips in the mid 2011 macbook pro 13"
here in SoCal we are expecting rain over the next few days, and I probable won't be going out...
not that I can't, but do I really need to go out just for a $10 item... although I get cabin fever easily.. spent
to many years on ships
anyway again if anyone comes up with a fix please post it.. I've spent about 4 hrs searching the net
of course there is always the old RCA connection..

just an FYI
If you did not know, apple has an internet based hardware diagnostic test.
shut down your computer, then just after you hit the start button, hit shift + D at same time
this will boot you into a test mode... it's easy from there, I used the long test 22 + min
but it showed my Macbook pro with not problems.
If this is true then my Bluetooth problem is software... which I will not try to find a driver on the apple site
Best

So after more research... I have determined that the problem is software.
there is suppose to be a file in the (library\preference) folder that reads
com.apple.bluetooth.plist
This is a created file when you pair a bluetooth device..
I have no such file on my laptop...
and I don't think you could other wise make that file
I am leary about the bluetooth doggle, but it might be my only recorse.
When trying to pair at least from my mid 2011 Macbook pro 13"
you really need to start at the system preference\Network, and make sure your
setting are correct (read) then click on the bluetooth icon or click on (setup bluetooth)
When you turn on your device you should see an icon the click connect
it will aske if you want to pair, if it does not, you have a software problem.
pairing an Iphone you get a set of number (6) to place into boxes...
mine still did not pair...
I have not found a way to reinstall the bluetooth software, and the ones I have seen
on the apple site are older then 2011...

You can't reinstall the BT software by itself. You would need to reinstall macOS. You might also consider going back to High Sierra which your MacBook Pro can run without any work arounds.

I could go back but I won't. My Macbook pro is running fine in all respects except for the bluetooth...
Since I had never used BT before I have not way of knowing if HS would be any better...
I have seen many posting on the net were the upgrade to Mojave has had it's problems with hardware and software..
I have a fully functioning WiFi, networking so I'll stay with what I have.
Anyway it's been a learning experience... found out a lot

I think I might have answered that (about going back) I said I would not.. but then I never know.
In my search to find an answer to my problem, I have found that many people have the same problem
as I do, meaning the BT connection will not stay...
I think I also stated that my connection to my Iphone works fine with my JBL Go 2 speakers...
I also found out that as of yet I have not found any usb bluetooth manufacturer supporsts MAC!!!!!
I wonder why this is. Also out of thousands of (apps, programs) for MAC not one is meant to replace the BT installed app.
I bought a BT 4.0 off of Ebay, it works on the laptop under 10.14.. but I still can not connect for a long period of time
about 10 sec now...
So it is the BT software...
If anyone has a USB BT 4.0 adapter that has drivers for MAC X.X.X let me know...

Give this a try:
4. Bluetooth issues on macOS Mojave
Bluetooth connection not working on macOS 10.14 Mojave is a known issue too. The symptoms look like your Mac just wouldn’t connect to Bluetooth, or in some cases, refuse to turn itself off.

To address this injustice, it’s recommended to delete the Bluetooth plist file — don’t worry it will recreate itself upon the next Bluetooth launch. But just in case, copy the file to some safe location.

Click on Finder > Go to Folder…
Type in /Library/Preferences.
Find com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file and delete it.
Restart your Mac.
