I would like to be able to block all cookies, except those from websites that I trust and use on a regular bases. Is there a way to do that? I have upgraded to Safari 12.

This says Yes and how to do it:

And PS: I don't know if any of this might apply:

I only see the option to 'block all cookies' on my Safari, and I have the latest version. There is no in between. It just says, 'cookies and website data' and only a box to check to 'block all cookies.

As always, Patrick, your thoroughness in Google searching is very much appreciated. These articles were pre-Safari 12, however.

The problem with Safari 12 is that it disables most or all of the common Tracking and Ad-Blocking Extensions if Safari believes the Extension will impede performance and this means: waiting till they are updated; disabling them; uninstalling them.

It also appears from several other threads on our Forums, that Safari is apparently only allowing Ad-Blocking and antiTracking Apps/Extensions which are purchased through the App Store.

Admin chscag suggested Ka-Block which seemingly works well; but for the moment, does not allow whitelisting - say, for our Forums.

So we do seem to have a problem with Safari 12; although to their credit Apple claim that they have changed things to limit Tracking and "pushy" Ads.

So, bollinger, there is a problem and whitelisting sites is a challenge.

Hope this background info helps.

Cookies are really irritating. How to avoid them?
Did you see in Safari Preferences, under the Websites options? Check out, Content Blockers, and Pop-up Windows. See what the settings are, and change accordingly.

Ian

As far as ad-blockers are concerned, I am using Wipr, and so far, so good, however, I would like to find a way to be able to whitelist sites that I will allow cookies from, and the rest I want to block.

For example, and it may not be that big of a deal with the other action that has been taken in safari with this latest update, under ->preferences->privacy->manage website data, there are more than 20 sites (since last night) that show up that stored data that can be used to track my browsing! I would like to put a lid on them, and only allow the sites I want to do this. I don't want to have to block them all, so I hope there will be a solution for this in the future.

I wonder if there is a balance that Apple wants to strike here? To protect user privacy, but not so much so, that they will intrude so much with other's revenues....

Thanks Ian, it looks like another case of Apple's "new & improved" features with some problems — they don't ph*&%'g work properly!!!

Just curious, but does "Safe Browsing" disable cookie collecting that could be enabled for certain sites? Or has Apple removed that feature from Safari 12 as well?
