I have just been reading about Quad9 DNS , 9.9.9.9 DNS.

Anyone know anything about it and is it a good security approach?

Ta for that info Chas.

It looks as if it is a good thing to have if it gives yet another level of protection, especially being a free-bee :D

I have set it up now and will see what happens? Nothing I hope? :) I hadn't realised that there are still things on these things that I could set up as easy as this one :Smirk:

Hi John

It would be useful to have a follow up in, say, 4 weeks time, just to give potentially interested folks a Member's personal experience.

Just a thought.

It should be noted that some routers are "locked" to the DNS settings of their particular carrier if they are of the rented type. You can change the DNS settings in your Advanced options under Network but that will not drive your Mac to use the new DNS settings. They have to be changed from within your router to be effective. And, IMO, the Quad9 DNS settings are overkill for most folks anyway.

So from what I am reading it is similar to OpenDNS except they seem to be in their infancy. They do not offer an online user interface that allows setup of custom blocking or the ability to whitelist a website initially blocked by their default settings. I have used OpenDNS at work and home for years now. It is free for home use.

I would be curious to see a comparison. I use my routers to determine what DNS servers are used.
