and I tried all their tips to bring bookmarks back. nothing is bringing them back. even importing from html file wont work. it's bad enough that firefox quantum has an ugly interface. that is why I was using firefox ESR... but now ESR update looks like the ugly quantum interface... now something as basic as bookmarks don't work. how do you actually contact firefox? their not using facebook at the moment...

guess I'm going back to the old version if I want book marks back.

I gave up on Firefox a long time ago. I used it when running Linux but have never been fond of it for macOS. There are many good browsers for macOS including some that offer better privacy than Safari or Chrome. I believe member Randy Singer listed browsers for macOS and links where they could be downloaded from. If you can find that thread.....

I liked firefox until they updated the look of it with quantum. I tried all the tips nothing worked for getting bookmarks back. very annoying. I don't like chrome or safari. not many options.

Someone suggested Vivaldi.app not too long ago as a good alternate, it's apparently from the original developers of Opera who wanted to go in another direction from what Opera turned into.

Maybe check the comments here:

PS: I'd like to know if it's normal for an older version of Safari (v. 9.1.3 w/ Mavericks 10.9.5) to not work and/or display properly with some sites. Such sites work fine when opened using Firefox(v. 61.x).

And yes, I had some problems with my FF bookmarks and even importing the saved batch from Safari some months ago after a FF update. Very annoying and time waster. But I didn't lose them all and they didn't disappear completely.

Do you have regular Time Machine backups? Because it might be possible to return to when FF was working as you like it and when your Bookmarks were there.

Returning to such a date, we could try to Restore the original FF app with all its attendant data.

I do have backups of firefox I made with CCC. so I can go back to the old firefox version that worked fine. but it's old so I don't trust using it now that an update is out. updated to the new version today. I was able to get bookmarks back again, but none of the tips firefox mentioned on their site worked to get bookmarks working again. I created a new profile and that allowed bookmarks to work again, then I imported the bookmarks. of course I had to login to all my websites again manually.... that was lost also with the upgrade.

so, before upgrading, choose Bookmarks> show all bookmarks > backup... (I even did Export to html) to have 2 backup copies.

then upgrade your firefox versioin.... and if your bookmarks stopped working in the updated version, you can restore or import them to get them working again. (after creating a new profile)

hope this helps someone else out... :) creating a new profile in firefox allowed me to import and get bookmarks working again. (so far so good anyways).

So glad you got it sorted; but what a hassle. Total incompetence. My opinion, of course.

Unfortunately, there has been an awful lot of that happening for quite some time now. Also many suffering from the RCI syndrome. (Rectal-Cranial-Inversion)

I agree. I don't understand why firefox cant create an update that works without having issues like this.

Like I said above, I gave up on Firefox a long time ago. However, if you like it and insist on using it, then you're going to have to put up with its quirks. I guess though we need to keep in mind that the folks at Mozilla who develop Firefox and Thunderbird do so on volunteer time.

I like firefox so I still use it. just not fond of safari and honestly their seems to be no other good options that I know of. Tried opera once and didn't like that.

I just thought I'd drop off a link for you to check out some of the suggested hits for a Mac "browser" that might suit you better, and you can modify the search if needed. But I think you might be surprised as to the amount and variety available and there just might be one you might like here:

I like Firefox a lot also. I really do not trust Chrome but use Safari on the newer Macs. So glad you were able to fix your issue.
