Connectivity

Hello....I solved part of my wi-fi problem. I just switched from a Cisco lynsis router to an Apple airport express. I kept the same network name, but changed the password. Not a good idea, change the network name and know it logs on every time. Thanks for the input from one of the members, sorry can't remember which one. I have an other problem, my connectivity via wi-fi is at times unstable. When my menu bar indicates that I have lost the internet connection I check my iphone and try to access safari, no problem, yet my laptop is telling me different. I go to my airport utility, where i get an amber light on the internet and green on my airport express. I click on internet and it shows disconnected. Is there a setting that I need to adjust this never happened with my old router. Help and thank you :[

TTT for this dormant thread that should be receiving more attention, so I'll make a few comments:

Glen Fleishman's 2nd ed. of Wi-Fi Networking and Security has been updated and released this month; I had the first version so just a $5 upgrade for me from the Take Control website.

The Wi-Fi standards have been really changing, just some highlights (see chart at bottom from Wiki): 1) "In 2018, the Wi-Fi Alliance introduced simplified Wi-Fi generational numbering to indicate equipment that supports Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n)", which replaced the harder to remember 802.11x labelling; 2) a 6 GHz band was added with the naming being Wi-Fi 6E; and 3) Speeds and bands have been dramatically increased and enhanced.

Two options have been around for a while in selecting 'home' Wi-Fi, the older single router access point with wireless Wi-Fi (along w/ any extenders etc.) and the new mesh systems. For myself, I'm using my ISP Spectrum's router which is Wi-Fi 6; my plan gives me 300 Mbps which covers our 2400 sq.ft. house and allows me to stream 4K films to my HDTV - I'd like mesh routing, can afford the decreasing prices recently, but don't feel the need? Dave
